The Sun moved into Libra on September 22 changing the energy from a detail oriented, organizational mode into a relationship mode. We are urged to examine our life with the goal of bringing our various activities and time allocations into balance. The month opened with Mercury retrograde square Pluto at 23-25 degrees Libra/Capricorn. The first few days in October may be filled with tension around decisions and a nagging feeling that “others” are in control of your life. In addition, with Mars and Pluto activated all month, watch your anger level and avoid angry, aggressive words.
In addition, there are an unusual number of inconjunct aspects between various planets throughout the month. The inconjunct aspect occurs when two planets are 150 degrees from each other. Two planets that are inconjunct have nothing in common and, thus, find it hard to relate to each other. An inconjunct requires adjustment and more adjustment. So …. All through October you are urged to stay balanced and to make adjustments in all areas of your life. Ask yourself: “How much am I willing to give?” and within that framework: “How can I make adjustments so that I can negotiate an outcome that everyone can live with?” Let’s hope our governments listen to the message.
Retrograde and forward-moving planets are also very active this month:
- Mercury turned retrograde on September 27 at 25 Degrees Libra.
- Pluto turns direct on October 6 at 24 Degrees Capricorn
- Saturn turns direct on October 10 at 7 Degrees Aquarius
- Mercury Turns Direct on October 18 at 10 Degrees Libra.
- Jupiter Turns Direct on October 18 at 22 Degrees Aquarius.
October 2-5: Mercury Retrograde Trine Jupiter at 21-23 Degrees Libra/Aquarius. Mercury retrograde trine Jupiter can lead to grandiose ideas that cannot be confirmed. Fire up your patience as your expectations may not live up to the reality. It would be a good idea to limit travel (Jupiter) and/or to give yourself extra travel time to reach your destination.
Mercury was in its shadow period on September 27 right on my natal Sun. My house key fell off my keyring and I didn’t notice it, so was locked out of my house. After getting over the inconvenience (required an adjustment), I realized that keys are ruled by Mercury. On that note, Mercury retrograde will affect you more if Mercury is conjunct, square or in opposition to a major planet or point in your natal horoscope.
October 4-10: Sun Conjunct Mars at 11-17 Degrees Libra. Treat relationship matters carefully when the Sun is conjunct Mars. The Sun represents your ego needs and Mars represents how you achieve those needs. The conjunction of Sun and Mars may push you towards asserting those needs in a way that you may later regret.
October 6: New Moon at 13 Degrees Libra. The New Moon joins up with the Sun and transiting Mars to create an energetic, but potentially volatile mix. At the same time, the Moon is inconjunct Uranus. Wowee!! This combination creates highly charged energy that can propel you forward in unexpected ways or waylay you in a wasteland of nervous, tense, anxiety. Your best bet is to take a hike or workout vigorously to let off some of the explosive energy. If ever there was a time to “make love, not war,” this is it.
October 6: Pluto Turns Direct at 24 Degrees Capricorn. Pluto moving direct will be felt more on a long-term, collective level than on a personal level. Your many hours of soul searching and introspection around potential life transformations can now be acted upon.
October 7: Venus Enters Sagittarius. If Covid allows, check out travel deals or, if necessary, arm chair travel. College courses and trips to the library are favored.
October 10-11: Mercury Conjunct Sun and Mars at 15 Degrees Libra. See Sun conjunct Mars above. When retrograde Mercury joins the party, you may speak in anger and haste. Practice patience and count to 20 (or 40 or 60) before you speak.
October 11: Saturn Turns Direct at 7 Degrees Aquarius. Saturn is a business planet. Saturn turning direct in Aquarius will stimulate business and employment matters. Those businesses providing innovative or technical products and services will advance nicely. Brush off the resume and hit the employment market now.
October 13-16: Venus Sextile Saturn at 7 Degrees Sagittarius/Aquarius. Sun Trine Jupiter at 21-23 Degrees Libra/Aquarius. You get a little respite now from the tense, angry energy. Make amends, if needed, and/or invite someone to lunch or a walk in the autumn leaves. Mercury is still retrograde, so make sure you both understand where to meet. Keep the conversation light and optimistic.
October 16-17: Sun Square Pluto at 23-24 Degrees Libra/Capricorn. Sun square Pluto can bring major challenges that result in long-ranging life changes. This is another aspect that pushes you to examine your life. You are nudged toward revamping, regenerating or releasing whatever is hindering your self-expression.
October 18: Mercury Turns Direct at 10 Degrees Libra.
October 18: Jupiter Turns Direct at 22 Degrees Aquarius. We should all notice a positive uptick in energy and progress as Mercury and Jupiter turn direct. Things that have been on hold can now move forward.
October 20: Full Moon at 27 Degrees Aries/Libra. The need for balance and adjustment are highlighted in neon colors under the Aries Full Moon. Aries is about self-assertion, action, personal courage and, sometimes, even aggressively getting what you want. Libra is about compromise, negotiating, balance and diplomacy. This Aries Full Moon demands that you strike a balance between the need to be assertive and the need to compromise. Libras need to consider being more courageous in going after what they want, while Aries needs to learn to work with other(s) in achieving their goals. A Full Moon activates your emotions and highlights your needs. Ask yourself: “Where do I need to take a stand?” “How can I negotiate the conflict between “my needs” and “your needs”. “What would a fair compromise look like?
You will get a chance to work out the deep details when the Sun and Mars move into Scorpio on October 30 (see below).
October 21-22: Mars Square Pluto at 24 Degrees Libra/Capricorn. Mars square Pluto leads to conflict, aggression, tension and disagreement. Mars and Pluto on the Libra/Capricorn axis may flare up around personal relationships. This is NOT the time to resolve relationship conflicts. Pluto ups the power dynamic, while Mars leads to uncharacteristic angry outbursts and anger generally. Wait until at least the end of the month to air any grievances. The Cardinal signs (Libra, Capricorn, Aries and Cancer) will feel this friction the strongest.
October 23: Sun Enters Scorpio.
October 30: Mars Enters Scorpio. As the planets continue their march through the Zodiac, we now begin the Scorpio phase of their journey. Scorpio is about regeneration and deep diving into our psyche to bring about long-lasting change. Everything may become more intense as this energy strengthens from now until the third week in November. The strong Plutonian energy that we experienced this month (Sun and Mars square Pluto) set the stage and conditioned us toward the need for change.

The theme this month is simplicity and relationship. Though relationships are anything but simple, the emphasis on both Virgo (simplicity and organization) and Libra (relationships) set the tone for the entire month of September.
The Sun moved into Virgo on August 23 shifting our focus toward the autumn season in the northern hemisphere. The Virgo energy relates to analysis, simplicity, organization and clearing out what is no longer essential. The Libra energy becomes strong at the autumn equinox on September 21. Libra has a strong theme relating to relationships, fairness, balance and beauty.
August 30: Mercury enters Libra. Plan social events and work out thorny social conundrums when Mercury is in Libra. When the planet of communication is in the sign of diplomacy, your chances of a win-win outcome is greatly enhanced. Continue to pursue your artistic pursuits, as you will have an enhanced sense of color, form and balance under the transit of Mercury in Libra.
September 2: Mars Opposition Neptune at 22 Degrees Virgo/Pisces. Its best not to push, but to just take it easy, under this nebulous, foggy energy. Anger (Mars) may turn to depression and hopelessness (Neptune) when the planet of action (Mars) is playing tug-of-war with the planet of confusion, delusion and illusion. However, since Neptune is the highest spiritual planet, you may want to turn that unrest into a time of quiet meditation. Either way, know that this too shall pass as Mars moves past the opposition by September 9.
September 5: Venus Square Pluto at 24 Degrees Libra/Capricorn. Intense, and possibly challenging, interactions with those close to you are in the forecast when Venus is square Pluto. Express yourself, but don’t belabor the point under this strong, intense energy.
September 6: New Moon at 14 Degrees Virgo; Sun Trine Uranus at 14 Degrees Virgo/Taurus; Venus Trine Jupiter at 24 Degrees Libra/Aquarius and Mars Trine Pluto at 24 Degrees Virgo/Capricorn. Whew, this Virgo New Moon contains strong energy!!! There’s a lot of planet power lighting up the sky at the new Harvest Moon in Virgo. Let me try to tease out the various energies expressed.
- New Moon in Virgo. The Moon is conjunct the Sun at 14 degrees Virgo. I often picture the New Moon as a dancer or actor/actress waiting at the edge of the stage before curtain call. Even though the Sun entered Virgo on August 22, its conjunction with the Moon is when it really sets off new energy and sets the stage for new actions and events around planning and organization.
- Sun in Virgo Trine Uranus in Taurus. The Sun adds energy and visibility to Uranus’ need to bring in the new and unusual. The earth energy brings stability and focus to help us reinvent ourselves and our situation.
- Venus in Libra Trine Jupiter in Aquarius brings an easy energy that facilitates our our ability to form and communicate ideas. Beware of becoming overly optimistic especially with regard to financial matters and untested romantic liaisons.
- Mars in Virgo Trine Pluto in Capricorn brings action (Mars) and power (Pluto) in a grounded focused way. You can accomplish a lot under this aspect. Just be sure to use the energy in a helpful way, not to force others to bend to your will. Power struggles are inherent in Mars/Pluto energy unless you are mindful.
All-in-all, this Virgo New Moon has the power to set you on a new path in a focused, grounded way. Plan carefully, organize well and you will be well on your way to a better way of living. Health, pets and employment matters are especially favored under this Virgo Harvest Moon.
September 10: Venus Enters Scorpio. Venus in Scorpio through October 6 brings intense emotions around relationships and you may be feeling extra passionate and sexual. When Venus is in Scorpio we want to become closer to others, yet at the same time, Venus in Scorpio brings out our deep vulnerabilities and fear of giving up our power. Thus, jealousy and distrust can prevail. Beware of creating crisis where none exists. This is one of those aspects that can be very positive or very destructive, depending on your actions and intentions.
September 14: Sun Opposing Neptune at 22 Degrees Virgo/Pisces. This is another time, when you might want to withdraw from the everyday happenings around you. You may be feeling overly sensitive and, yet, unable to assert yourself. In addition, things and people around you may be confusing and/or downright deceptive. Because your powers of discrimination are lacking at this time, it is best not to commit to anyone or anything until the Sun moves out of aspect to Neptune in a few days.
September 14: Mars Enters Libra. Mars in Libra until October 30 focuses on your relationships. Mars is action and our impetus to move forward, while Libra relates to partnership and cooperation. The Martian energy becomes muted while in Libra. The danger is that we may not stand up for ourselves when we should. The big upside to Mars in Libra is that it makes us more willing to compromise and to work out relationship snags. Use this time to look at your relationships with an eye toward making them better for everyone involved.
September 17: Venus Square Saturn. This is not the best day for relating to others. You may feel removed from others and may feel lonely and depressed. You may find yourself obsessing about your relationships, with a feeling that they are worse than they are. This is not a day to take action. Rather, go within and get in touch with your own feelings around your self-value. Self-reflection and introspection are called for, rather than finding fault with others.
September 20: Full Moon at 28 Degrees Pisces. The veil between the worlds is lifted when the Moon is full in Pisces. Tune in to your intuition, meditate, and let divine guidance flow through you. The Sabian symbol for this Pisces Full Moon is “Light Breaking into Many Colors as It Passes through a Prism.” This is about the ability to break all the colors and nuances of our life down into many parts so they can be analyzed (a function of the Virgo Sun opposite the Pisces Moon). At the same time, we are urged to bring all of our separate parts together into a single focus and to let our analytical brain rest for a while. Tune in to symbols, images, color and the messages from other realms and just BE. Those of you who work with crystals may find that work to be especially illuminating under this Full Moon in Pisces.
September 22: Sun Enters Libra. The Sun in Libra until October 22, brings our attention to partnerships of all kinds. This can be a best friend, spouse, significant other, counselor and/or a business partnership. Its time to mend and honor all relationships under the helpful rays of the Sun in Libra.
September 23: Venus Opposition Uranus. You will be drawn to stimulating activities of all kinds when Venus opposes Uranus. It can bring a sudden love relationship, but only time will tell whether it will be lasting. In the meantime, just enjoy the unusual vibes!
September 25: Mars Trine Saturn at 7 Degrees Libra/Aquarius. This is a superb transit for completing painstaking projects, or those that you have been putting off forever. Mars gives you energy, while Saturn helps you stick to the project until it is completed. Detail work of all kinds is favored. The Moon in Gemini forms a Grand Trine with Mars and Saturn on September 26, bringing a sense of emotional accomplishment to your hard work.
September 27: Mercury turns retrograde at 25 Degrees Libra. Mercury retrograde in Libra until October 19 gives us a second chance to focus on our relationships. In some cases, we may want to make amends or to clarify relationship issues. In a few cases, we may find that the relationship is no longer viable and we may decide to let it go. Some of you may find that an old love comes back into your life.
September 29: Sun Trine Saturn at 7 Degrees Libra/Aquarius. Sun trine Saturn is custom made for organizing and making an overall plan. Ask yourself, “Where have I been and where do I want to go?”
Venus Trine Neptune at 21 Degrees Scorpio/Pisces. Venus trine Neptune can bring a lovely romantic relationship. The danger is that you see what you want to see in the other person, not necessarily what is actually there. Proceed carefully.
September 30: Venus Square Jupiter. You won’t have a lot of self-discipline when Venus is square Jupiter, so plan something enjoyable and fun. If you go shopping, you might want to leave your credit cards home. You will be prone to over spending on less than stellar quality goods. Personal relationships are favored, unless you present yourself in an arrogant or grandiose manner.

The Sun moved into Leo on July 22nd and was conjunct Mercury in Leo from July 31 through August 2. Our attention is directed towards unleashing our capacity for joy, wonder, creativity and play. As Mercury moves into Virgo on August 11 and joins Mars and Venus in that sign, the emphasis begins to shift. Finally, on August 23 the Sun moves into Virgo. The month of August 2021 is superb for unleashing your creativity (Leo) and bringing it down to earth in a helpful way (Virgo). Enjoy!
August 1-7: Sun Conjunct Mercury in Opposition to Saturn from 9-11 Degrees Leo/Aquarius and Square Uranus from 13-15 Degrees Leo/Taurus. This is a rather testy time. With the Sun conjunct Mercury and Sun opposing Saturn, our will and our need to speak out seems to be squelched. Add to that, the square to the planet of freedom (Uranus) and the stage is set for a rebellious break out. Watch the news to see how this volatile energy will play out on the world stage.
August 8: New Moon at 16 Degrees Leo. Bring out your paintbrush, guitar, and dancing shoes to celebrate the New Moon in Leo. Unleash your ability to express pure joy and exuberance under this Leo New Moon. New Moons are always about new beginnings and new intentions. Set your intention to have more fun and joy despite what is going on around you.
August 9-10: Venus Opposition Neptune at 22-23 Degrees Virgo/Pisces. Venus opposing Neptune combines the energies of the two planetary muses, but because it is an opposition, neither seems to be able to produce results. Use the inspiration they bring, but don’t expect concrete results. Instead, enjoy listening to music, watching a dreamy movie or playing in the water.
August 11: Mercury Enters Virgo. After the animated exuberance of Mercury in Leo, Mercury in Virgo calms things down and your thoughts turn to organization and planning. If you have children, begin to get everything together for the unknowns of the upcoming school year while Mercury is in Virgo.
August 12: Venus Trine Pluto at 24-25 Degrees Virgo/Capricorn. You may wish to have that deep, soul-baring conversation with your loved one(s) under this intense, yet loving energy. Be careful though, power issues and in play.
August 13-14: Mars Inconjunct Saturn at 9 Virgo/Aquarius. Frustration abounds under Mars inconjunct Saturn. Mars wants action and Saturn says “not so fast.” Adjustments need to be made under an inconjunct aspect.
August 15-17: Sun Inconjunct Neptune and Pluto at 23-24 Degrees Leo/Pisces/Capricorn in a Yod Aspect. As stated above, the inconjunct aspect is an uncomfortable connection that requires an adjustment. The signs of Leo, Pisces and Capricorn do not naturally understand each other. Therefore, if you have planets near 23-24 degrees of any of these signs, you may feel out of sorts or confused about your life direction and connection to others under this aspect.
August 16: Venus enters Libra. Venus loves being in its own sign of Libra where it will reside until September 10. Use Venus in Libra to strengthen relationships, revise or sign contracts and to beautify your wardrobe and surroundings.
August 19-20: Mercury Conjunct Mars Trine Uranus at 12-14 Degrees Virgo/Taurus. Sun Opposition Jupiter at 27-28 Degrees Leo/Aquarius. Your mind will be brimming with new and unusual ideas under Mercury trine Uranus. Use this helpful energy to find an innovative solutions to vexing problems. A bonus of this connection in the down-to-earth signs of Virgo and Taurus is that the insights you gain will be practical and useful. The Sun opposing Jupiter is prone to over optimism and even exaggeration, so keep your ideas grounded and practical.
August 20: Uranus turns Retrograde at 14 Degrees Taurus. Uranus retrograde lasts until January 18, 2022, when it will station direct at 10 degrees Taurus. Uranus is a slow mover that stays in each sign for seven years, so we won’t feel its retrograde motion on a daily basis. However, Uranus retrograde in Taurus is an excellent time to make beneficial changes to enhance your financial worth. it can also help you break out of limiting beliefs about your self worth so you can reveal your true self.
August 21: Mars Trine Uranus at 14 Degrees Virgo/Taurus. Use this easy energy between Mars and Uranus to explore new horizons and to break free from limiting beliefs.
August 22: Full Moon at 29 Degrees 37 Minutes Aquarius. Twenty-nine degrees of any planet in astrology has a certain magical, fated quality to it. The second Full Moon in a row to fall in Aquarius is at that special 29-degree point. Under this Aquarius Full Moon, focus on where you want more freedom, or more connection with a close friend or group. It may bring a turning point in your life around those matters. When the Sun enters Virgo later on the 22nd at 5:34 pm (EDT), let the Virgo energy clarify and organize your intentions. What a winning combination!!

The planetary energy this month is a curious juxtaposition of challenging, energetic, self-actualizing, confusing and subline.
June 25: Neptune Turns Retrograde at 23 Degrees Pisces. Though not everyone will notice the energy shift, Neptune retrograde until December 2, 2021, has a measurable effect on the collective mood. Whether Neptune Retrograde is noticed or not, the entire period of its retrograde movement is good for tuning into your intuitive, psychic self. Practice sensing your environment using your sixth sense, as well as your customary five senses during this long retrograde Neptune period.
The spiritual lesson inherent in Neptune retrograde in Pisces is to:
- let go of limits,
- forgive yourself and others,
- practice a wider and greater perspective on all matters,
- allow the higher spiritual energy of Neptune in Pisces retrograde to heal your loss.
Neptune is not about doing. It is about being and attunement to all that is.
June 27: Venus enters Leo. Let your inner child out to play while Venus transits Leo through July 21. If Venus is transiting your fifth house, it can also be helpful for romance, creativity and all matters relating to children.
June 30-July 3: Mars Opposition Saturn at 12-13 Degrees Leo/Aquarius Square Uranus at 13 Degrees Taurus. Challenging times are here when the planet of anger, fire and action (Mars) is opposed by the planet of limitation, responsibility and tradition (Saturn). Add to that the square to the planet of freedom and breakthroughs (Uranus) and you have the recipe for a chaotic, tension-filled period. The fixed signs will feel the combustible, seemingly unresolvable energy the strongest. Watch for political demonstrations and protests, violence, soaring heat and fire danger.
July 4-9: Mercury Square Neptune at 23 Degrees Gemini/Pisces. Venus Opposition Saturn and Square Uranus at 11-14 Degrees Leo/Aquarius/Taurus. The advice from above is still in force in the period from July 4 to 9. In addition, Mercury square Neptune brings a big dose of confusion and foggy thinking to the mix. The worrisome aspects are made even worse when transiting Moon conjuncts Uranus, squares Mars and opposes Saturn on July 4th.
On a personal level, try to keep your cool and stay away from tension-filled venues from June 30 through July 9. We are all more accident prone under this planetary configuration, so always take time to think before you act. Above all, know that this too shall pass.
July 9-10: New Moon at 18 Degrees Cancer. The Cancer New Moon emphasizes our emotions and our need to give and receive care and nurturing. Most of us are pretty good at caring for others, but not so good at nurturing ourselves During this emotion-filled New Moon in Cancer take time to think about how (or IF) you are nurturing yourself. Ask yourself what you need to nourish not only your body, but also your spirit, mind, heart and soul. If possible, spend time near water as you contemplate the wisdom of this New Moon as it begins a new cycle around fulfilling our deepest needs.
 July 11: Mercury enters Cancer. As Mercury moves out of its home sign, Gemini, and into Cancer our thoughts stabilize and are less scattered and stimulating. Mercury in Cancer turns our thoughts to home, family, real estate matters and security. Mercury in Cancer until July 27 is custom made to make plans to implement and manifest the changes that you started under the New Moon in Cancer.
July 13: Mars Conjunct Venus at 20 Degrees Leo. Self-actualization is the name of the game under this delightful Venus conjunct Mars in Leo. Mars and Venus conjunct favor love, romance and business matters. But most of all, it is about loving yourself. Learn to love, appreciate and promote your own unique qualities when Venus and Mars are conjunct.
July 13-15: Mercury Trine Jupiter at 2 Degrees Cancer/Pisces.
Sun Trine Neptune at 22-23 Degrees Cancer/Pisces. The sweet energy of Mercury trine Jupiter and Sun trine Neptune brings a short, but welcome reprieve from the harsher energy of this month. Use this time to heal family wounds or to just simply enjoy outings with your family. A beach vacation might be just the ticket to take advantage of this watery, light hearted, mellow energy.
July 16-18: Sun Opposition Pluto at 24-25 Degrees Cancer/Capricorn. Sun opposition Pluto brings intense encounters with others. Beware of power struggles, especially with those in authority. If you find that relationships, machinery and other possessions are breaking down at an alarming rate, it is because those things that have been held together with a hope and prayer, must now be fixed or abandoned. Do not put yourself in situations where violence or force could erupt and keep life simple during this time. Despite these rather alarming warnings, Sun Opposition Pluto is a very productive transit in which to make fundamental, sweeping changes that will vastly improve your life in the long run.
July 18-21: Mars and Venus Conjunct in a Yod aspect with Pluto and Neptune at 23-25 Degrees Leo/Capricorn/Pisces. A Yod aspect is formed when two planets are sextile each other with a third planet inconjunct each of them. The Yod has traditionally been known as the “finger of God” aspect because there is an element of fate or the unknown inherent in the configuration. Sextiles are easy energy, while inconjuncts indicate that an adjustment needs to be made. This particular Yod may stir up idealism (Neptune) that is met with authoritarian control (Pluto). It will be interesting to see what plays out in the news and on the world stage.
July 23: Full Moon at 1 Degree Aquarius. An Aquarius Full Moon brings our attention to the community at large (even the global community) and reminds us that we are each part of something larger than ourselves. Under the Full Moon in Aquarius contemplate how that homeless person that you avoid is really your brother or sister in disguise. Ask yourself: What does the concept of humanity mean to me? Is it more important to me to give my time and resources to those close to me or to humanity in general? What is the true meaning of a friend? Can I be true to myself while taking part in a group endeavor.
Enjoy stimulating conversations among like-minded friends under this sociable Full Moon in Aquarius. Abstract, free flowing thoughts and conversations can bring amazing breakthroughs under an Aquarius Full Moon.
July 29: Mars Opposition Jupiter. Time to fight — or much, much better — time to direct the Mars fighting spirit into positive enterprises. You can accomplish a lot when you take charge of this wonderfully energized Mars opposition Jupiter.
