“You can’t stop the future
You can’t rewind the past
The only way to learn the secret
…is to press play.” ― Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why
Hurtling into the new year Mars at Zero Degrees Aries: Saturn widely conjunct Pluto in Capricorn; and Jupiter in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces start the new year off with a surge of energy that will be with us, in one form or another, all year.
Mars in its home sign of Aries is especially strong. When a planet is zero degrees of any sign it takes on added importance. Action, boldness and strife, are the words of the month, particularly around public matters, business, career and governmental machinations.
The planets present a fascinating juxtaposition of energy and action. Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn speaks to “reality” and hard, materialistic conditions around economics, politics and group dynamics.
In stark contrast, Jupiter in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces speak to ideals, dreams, truth, and religious and spiritual beliefs and wishes. Jupiter will be square to Neptune off and on all through the year, while Pluto and Saturn will simultaneously be building toward an exact square. Mars remains in Aries through February 13, 2019.
To put it mildly, “It will be an interesting year!”
January 6: New Moon (Solar) Eclipse at 15 Degrees Capricorn. This is the first of five eclipses that occur in 2019. It is not a particularly powerful eclipse on its own. But because it falls right at the midpoint of Saturn and Pluto, it becomes exceedingly powerful and can feel somewhat oppressive. Issues from the past will suddenly resurface and take on added importance and power.
Capricorn is an ambitious, workaholic, goal-oriented sign. Use this time to plow through (Mars and Pluto) any obstacles holding you back from success in the public realm (Capricorn). Use this dynamic energy to further any and all career and business matters and to improve and secure your home and family life.
January 11 to 19: Jupiter Square Neptune between 13 and 15 Degrees of Sagittarius/Pisces. The Jupiter/Neptune square will be in force all through 2019. It becomes the strongest now and, once again, on June 14, and September 20. Jupiter is the planet of optimism, abundance, more-is-better and religion.
Neptune is about ideals, dreams, spirituality and illusion. Both planets have a tendency to look at the world through rose-colored glasses. A certain degree of such idealism and optimism is sorely needed. However, we can have a tendency to see only what we want to see under this aspect.
Contrast this aspect with dour Saturn moving through Capricorn. Saturn is the planet of limitation, stark reality and serious assessments.
You can see that we have two very different energies dominating during 2019. Politically and personally we are apt to see wild swings between two extremes. That is: Wanting to believe everything is just fine and then pessimistically believing that things couldn’t be any worse and that we (you) are doomed.
The best advice to navigate this year is to realize that neither extreme is helpful. Do what you can to improve your life, and release the outcome to the Universe. Slowly and steadily (Saturn) things will improve. Though it will be in Saturn’s time, not yours.
January 10-11: Sun conjunct Pluto at 20-21 Degrees Capricorn. When the Sun joins Pluto in Capricorn we begin our long journey into the Capricorn/Cancer archetypes. The word of the day is power, or rather “POWER.” The focus is both on the power emitted from others, including governments, groups, parents, friends and significant others, and, maybe more importantly, how we express our own power (or not).
There is also an important emphasis on the death of an old situation that is no longer serving its purpose and movement into building a new life concept. The political/economic machinations that are so prevalent in the world today are the birth pains of a world that needs to slough off the old and to be transformed into a new reality (Pluto). When things feel too rough and too hopeless it is important to remember that birth is painful, but necessary and miraculous. The birth pains of this year are only a phase not a punishment.
January 12-13: Mercury conjunct Saturn at 12 Degrees Capricorn. The accentuation of the Capricorn theme continues when Mercury conjuncts Saturn. This is an excellent time to make careful, practical plans and to have business or financial discussions with your tax or financial advisor.
January 17: Venus trine Mars at 11 Degrees Sagittarius/Aries. This is a light-hearted, active energy that is ideal for having fun with a loved one, particularly a romantic connection. Sports, horseback riding, and all outdoor and sports-oriented activities are favored. The energy changes drastically in the next two days, so it is wise to work off some pent-up energy on the ski slopes, hiking, etc.
January 18-19:
Sun square Uranus at 28 Degrees Capricorn/Aries:
Venus Trine Mars at 12 Degrees Sagittarius/Aries;
Mercury Conjunct Pluto at 21 Degrees Capricorn; and
Mars Square Saturn at 13 Degrees Aries/Capricorn).
Expect the unexpected with Sun square Uranus! This is fantastic energy for sudden insights and for moving forward in a new, uncharted venture. However, be forewarned, anything can and will happen. Be open to unexpected events and enjoy the ride!
Social and political matters could reach a boiling point and polarization could reach new levels (Mercury conjunct Pluto). Mars square Saturn pits the need to act (and act now) with the need to be careful and to observe rules and limitations. Watch for a conflict between the old way of doing, being and thinking with the more progressive view, especially as it relates to government.
January 20-21: Total Lunar Eclipse at Zero Degrees 52 Minutes Leo/Aquarius with the Moon Square Uranus. The Moon is square Uranus making this eclipse a time of emotional, rapid-fire mood swings and impulsive and erratic actions. Resist the temptation to make sudden changes and, if possible, hold off on making important decisions. This lunar eclipse will most affect those with planets or points at approximately 26 to 30 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn and 0 to 6 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.
End of January: Mars trines Jupiter on the 25th brings high motivation and the will to take action.
The Sun conjunct Mercury on the 29th is an excellent day to handle communication matters of all kinds.
Saturn sextile Neptune on the 30th is an opportune time to put your dreams into action. The Saturn reality will stabilize your Neptunian pie-in-the-sky dreams.
Overall, the theme for January (and for the year 2019) is to dream big, but always keep yourself grounded in reality.
