Astrology Transits May 2022 – Soothing Balm of Nature

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter. ― Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder

On Earth Day, April 22, 2022, our attention turned to the planetary movement into Taurus, with the Sun, Mercury and Uranus all sojourning through Taurus. The Taurus energy is about peace, security, the earth, the environment, our values and beauty generally. In my astrology classes, I tell my astrology students that the Taurus energy can be viewed as Ferdinand, the bull, happily lying in a field of flowers. Ferdinand (Taurus) appreciates serene surroundings and doesn’t feel the need to shake things up.

Contrast this bucolic Taurus energy with the strong Aries and Mars energy that also prevails throughout the month of May. My take on this contrasting energy is that we must stay grounded (Taurus and Earth energy) amid aggressive, angry, pushy energy (Mars and Aries). Our task is to use the Mars/Aries energy in its positive, active form. That is, use it to get things done and to start new projects and initiatives.

Enjoy this month of contrasts and remember: When things get hectic, its time to draw back from the fray to commune with the healing power of nature.

May 1-4:  Venus and Jupiter Sextile Pluto at 28 Degrees Pisces/Capricorn. Venus sextile Pluto brings an opportunity to express yourself truthfully about your needs. Though interactions are somewhat intense under Venus sextile Pluto, it is an opportune time to let others know how you feel. Venus, the planet of love, will help you express concerns in a loving way. Be careful not to push or to come on too strong.

Jupiter sextile Pluto gives you renewed vigor, optimism and positive actions. Its time to move those immovable mountains!

May 4-5: Sun Conjunct Uranus and Mars Sextile Uranus at 14 Degrees Pisces/Taurus.  The Sun conjunct Uranus brings a sense that you must make changes Now. Starting and nurturing new habits are favored. Mars sextile Uranus helps you break through obstacles. Innovative ideas are hovering around you, waiting for you to pluck them to solve problems and to move forward.

May 7:  Sun Sextile Mars at 17 Degrees Taurus/Pisces. The Sun sextile Mars is a competitive aspect. Use this dynamic aspect to solve problems, not to cause strife and anger.

May 10: Jupiter Enters Aries. Jupiter in Aries is superb for finding and celebrating your true talents. Ask yourself: “What talents have I been hiding from myself and the world?” Jupiter is an exuberant, positive, forward-looking archetype. Aries is an active, courageous, entrepreneurial sign. Together, they signal an excellent time to launch a new life style, project, business or creative endeavor.

May 10 Mercury Stationary Retrograde at 5 Degrees Gemini. Mercury retrograde in Gemini gives us a double dose of communication snafus and do-overs. Positively, use this time to go over old ideas and projects. Get rid of the unworkable ones and revise the plausible ones. Mercury moves backward into Taurus on May 22 and resumes direct motion on June 3.

May 15: Sun Square Saturn at 24 Degrees Taurus/Aquarius; Sun Sextile Neptune at 24 Degrees Taurus/Pisces; and Venus Conjunct Chiron at 14 Degrees Aries. The cosmic energy today is quite a mixed bag. Sun square Saturn brings a serious vibe, especially around old relationship wounds (Venus conjunct Chiron). Use your imagination and intuition to understand and heal those wounds (Sun sextile Neptune).

May 16: Full Moon at 25 Degrees Scorpio/Taurus and Total Lunar Eclipse at 0.13 AM EST.  This Scorpio Eclipse could be an emotional roller coaster due to the intensity of the Scorpio Moon and the security minded, fixity of the Taurus Sun. This Scorpio lunar eclipse is part of a T-square involving The Moon, Saturn, Sun and the North and South Nodes. Old issues around limitation, lack and “am I good enough?” may rear their ugly heads during this time. That’s okay. Lunar Eclipses are meant to “clear the decks” and to release old, unhelpful emotions, ideas, people, places and things. Ask yourself: What do I need to let go of today? Then bless that person or thing and let it go. Spending time by the water will help you work through the challenging, yet liberating energy of the Scorpio Full Moon.

May 18:  Mars Conjunct Neptune at 25 Degrees Pisces. Mars conjunct Neptune is like hitting the gas while falling asleep at the wheel. If you feel tired, take a break. It is not good to push yourself under this aspect.

May19: Retrograde Mercury Sextile Jupiter at 1 Degree Gemini/Aries. While Mercury is retrograde and sextile Jupiter, the time is right to go back over your thought processes about an important matter. Jupiter gives you optimism, while retrograde Mercury will help you untangle your thinking.

May 20:  Sun Enters Gemini. The Sun in Gemini boosts your ability to be communicative, versatile and talkative. This will be especially true on May 21st when the Sun is conjunct Mercury. Use this time for matters involving communications and writing.

May 24:  Mars Enters Aries.  When Mars enters its home sign of Aries, things really heat up. This will be especially true when Mars is joined by the Moon for a couple of days. The time is right for beginning new projects, tackling old “yucky” projects or engaging in active sports or activities. Be careful though, because your anger and aggression level could escalate.

May 25: Mercury Trine Pluto at 28 Degrees Taurus/Capricorn. It’s a good time to discuss deep issues around values, sexuality and change when Mercury is trine Pluto. Just be aware that Mercury is retrograde so you need to make sure that you and the other person(s) are clear about what was actually said.

May 27: Venus Square Pluto at 28 Degrees Aries/Capricorn. Let’s hope you got touchy discussions out of the way two days ago. Now, when Venus is square Pluto, is one of the worst ever times for such discussions. Feelings are intense and retrograde Mercury doesn’t help. The emotional temperature gauge falls considerably when Venus enters Taurus on the 28th.

May 28: Venus Enters Taurus. When Venus transits Taurus, romance, security, sensual pleasures and money matters are the dominant themes. It would be wise to review all of your investments and debts while Venus is in Taurus. This is especially wise because Uranus will be in Taurus for the next several years. Uranus in Taurus can bring sudden upsets regarding money matters. Enjoy Venus in Taurus until June 22nd.

May 29: Mars Conjunct Jupiter at 3 Degrees Aries. Use this energetic combination to put yourself out there with confidence, energy and daring!

May 30: New Moon at 9 Degrees Gemini. The Gemini New Moon brings your attention to your communication and social skills and the manner in which you express yourself. It favors mental endeavors such as writing, teaching, learning, speaking and listening. Because Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is moving retrograde back into Taurus, it brings an additional meaning to this New Moon in Gemini. Retrograde Mercury in Taurus asks us to review our finances and values and to communicate those values to those close to us. Have you told those you love how much you value them? Do your physical possessions reflect your true values?
