Venus Retrograde & March 2017 Astrology

It’s all about Venus retrograde – time to evaluate your relationship with yourself, your friends, your lovers and even your pets.

“Every person, all the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you.”  Richard Bach

We continue to strongly feel the effects of the February 26 eclipse throughout the first week of March as the eclipse degree and then the ongoing Uranus/Jupiter opposition were triggered by transiting planets.

On March 4, Mars in Aries is exactly trine Saturn in Sagittarius.  I sense a lot of anger and a feeling of (almost) desperation in the air, which made it quite scary out on the highway.  Thank goodness, that energy will soon be easing.

When Venus turns stationary retrograde at 13 degrees Aries on March 4, relationship dynamics of all kinds take center stage.  When a planet retrogrades it is time to re-evaluate, rework, revise and redo.

Venus, the planet of relationships, love, beauty, net worth, self worth and value shines a laser beam on those matters until April 15 when she turns direct.

Venus retrograde is only a small part of the Venus energy of the next month.  A new eight-year Venus cycle has started, so it is an opportune time to work with the Venusian archetype.  Relationship issues that took center stage eight years ago and also around the end of January 2017 will be up for resolution all year.

Retrograde Venus is best used by re-examining old relationship issues with the purpose of learning and then letting go of those issues.  Quite often someone from the past will show up during a Venus retrograde period.  They show up to help you process the relationship so you can either redouble your efforts to make it work or, if appropriate, to let it go with blessings.

Retrograde Venus can bring a new relationship or repair a damaged relationship. I have posted an article on how to optimize the effects of Venus retrograde.

Another Venus turning point happens on March 25, when the Sun and Venus are conjunct.  Venus will disappear from the night sky for around 10 days and will reappear as a morning star.  In fact, during March those living in the Northern Hemisphere may be able to see Venus as both a morning and evening star.  A fascinating geometrical story about Venus’ dual role as an evening and morning star is that it forms an eight-sided star in the sky during its 18-month cycle (more of the astronomy of can be found at Earthsky.org).

The full Moon in Virgo square Saturn on March 12 will amp up your discernment powers to aid you in evaluating your relationships.  This configuration allows you to view all relationship matters in the cold lens of reality.  This is also an excellent time to make business and/or employment plans and to weed out those things that are not productive and/or profitable.

The spring equinox on March 20 at zero degrees Aries is like an astrological new year’s celebration.  It is absolutely the best time to set your intentions for the new astrological year.  The Sun at zero degrees Aries delivers a shot of energy and an intuitive feeling that it is time to reawaken from the long winter.  You are revitalized and reenergized.  Think big, set your intentions and act decisively!

Just for Fun:

It’s best to keep a good sense of humor when it comes to relationship issues!  Enjoy your month.

ASTROLOGY TRANSITS FEBRUARY 2017

In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.

Deepak Chopra

I, like many of my friends and clients, have been going through a period of optimism, severely tempered by a feeling of pessimism and impending doom.  We are feeling extra angry and agitated and those around us are also frustrated and more prone to antagonistic and caustic words.  The planetary picture in the sky sheds light on this phenomenon.

There is an over abundance of Mars/Aries energy during the month of February.  The month opens with Mars, Moon, Uranus and Eris all in the sign of Aries.  Be especially careful around machinery and fires this month and think before you act.  This is a very impulsive, rash energy that can make you more accident prone.

Venus will move into Aries on February 3, where she forms an ongoing conjunction to Mars until the middle of the month.  Venus at zero degrees Aries also starts a very important, eight-year cycle.  As it transits around the zodiac from that starting point it will form an eight pointed star in the sky as it alternates between being a morning star and an evening star.  Venus at zero degrees Aries means Change with a capital C. It is beneficial for resetting our values and all things that relate to money or finances.

Venus conjunct Mars highlights all of the things we want but can’t have (at least right in this moment) bringing on feelings of frustration and anger.  Our value system (Venus) is threatened (Mars) causing the feelings of angst and annoyance.

Looking further at the February 2017 astrology chart we see that:

  • Uranus, the wild card planet of change, is conjunct Eris, the planet of discord,
  • Uranus and Eris are in opposition to Jupiter, the planet that doesn’t always know when in stop.  Jupiter is actually egging on the volatile Aries energy.
  • Uranus and Eris are square Pluto, the planet of control. Everyone wants to be the boss. The more we (or others) try to be in control (Pluto) the more each party pushes their agenda and the angrier everyone gets.
  • Uranus and Eris are trine Saturn, which is a very good thing. Saturn is the cool, authoritative voice that steps in and says, “that’s enough now boys/girls, time to break it up and get back to work.”  Instead of fighting go do something useful.”

Saturn’s words can be very useful in coping with this overheated energy.  Whenever you feel agitated, angry or discombobulated, find another outlet such as physical exercise (Mars) or hard work (Saturn) to release the pent up steam.

The full Moon lunar eclipse of February 10 at 22 degrees of Leo/Aquarius will fall on these volatile points.  A lunar eclipse is an excellent time to take a look at what is outdated and no longer serving you.  It is a time of release and an excellent time to prepare for the new energy that the February 26 solar eclipse will bring.  See my Leo Moon eclipse article.

Valentine’s Day on February 14 finds the emotional Moon in the partnership sign of Libra opposing Mars and Venus.  This could be a very passionate and exciting day for you so long as you stop any disagreements quickly without holding a grudge.  Passionate energy can sometimes masquerade as anger and vice versa.

Finally, on February 26, we have a new Moon solar eclipse at 8 degrees Pisces.  The volatile energy that  has been present all month will continue.  This active, masculine energy is an opportune time to start new projects, move projects forward, and to revive old projects that have become dormant.

Though things are certainly still super charged, I am optimistic about the overall planetary picture.  I love that the gentle, compassionate Piscean archetype is prominent at the time of the eclipse.  Not only are the Sun and Moon in Pisces, but also Mercury, the South Node, Neptune and Chiron.  Gentle exercise such as yoga or qigong, meditation or long walks near water will be very healing for you.  Pay attention to your daydreams, dreams, intuition and flashes of insight at this time.

It truly is a wonderful time to:  “Keep the stillness inside of you in the midst of movement and chaos.”  You will be happy and surprised by the remarkable insights that can surface at this time!

January 2017 Astrology Transits

2017-w-meme

May you live  in interesting times. – Chinese proverb.

The true meaning of the quote “May you live in interesting times” will be clear in year 2017 when numerous opportunities will present themselves along with uncertainty and possible chaotic manifestations.  Year 2017 promises to be a year of intense geocosmic activity bringing startling and unexpected breakthroughs, advancement and progress counterbalanced by upsets, chaos and explosive actions and outcomes.  The year opens with a dynamic opposition between Jupiter and Uranus.  Uranus, the wild-card planet, has just turned direct in Aries. These two planets will be in contact with each other at varying levels of intensity until fall of 2017, when they finally begin to lose contact with each other. In 2017 we are combining the planet of expansion (Jupiter) in Libra with the planet of sudden change and revolution (Uranus) in the sign of Aries (ruled by Mars) with the planet of transformation (Pluto) in Capricorn; look for:

  • A lot of business startups.
  • Lots of movement in the job market. Old jobs will fall away to make room for new opportunities.
  • Scientific and technological breakthroughs on an unprecedented level.
  • Fires, lightning strikes, earthquakes, unusual weather and explosions in the news.
  • Wide ranging political skirmishes and social upheavals with unknown outcomes.
  • A spirit of revolution everywhere you look.

We can also expect to see:

  • Groundbreaking new ideas.
  • Renewed hope for a better future despite the disquieting elements.
  • Polarization or struggling to find common ground between your beliefs and the beliefs of your friends and loved ones.
  • Reinvention in all of its many guises and faces and on both a personal and cosmic level.
  • Focus upon liberty, freedom and independence and, hopefully, finding your voice to speak up when necessary.
  • Renewed visions for the universe, our planets and for ourselves.
  • Radical or sudden changes in how you view the world.
  • Brilliant, innovative new ideas unexpectedly popping up to solve old problems.

While these energies will be with us through most of the year, we will feel them most strongly through January 12.  We then have a partial resting period before they strongly resurface from February 22 to April 21.

While the Jupiter/Uranus/Pluto manifestations are taking place we are also experiencing a helpful trine from Saturn in Sagittarius to Chiron in Pisces. Saturn trine Chiron can be consciously used to bring healing and a higher vibration to the planet.  Saturn warns us to stop and think before acting.  Though Saturn gets a bad rap in many astrology circles, it can bring a much needed “cool down” and “think” energy to the overheated configurations just discussed.  Chiron urges us to not keep repeating old detrimental ways of being and thinking. Chiron in Pisces reminds us to consider whether we, as an individual, are hurting or helping the planet, ourselves and our fellow sojourners here on planet earth.

In tune with the “change” theme of 2017 we will experience four eclipses in 2017. The first eclipse will be a lunar eclipse on February 10 at 22 degrees Leo/Aquarius, a solar eclipse on February 26 at 8 degrees Pisces, a lunar eclipse on August 7 at 15 degrees Aquarius/Leo and (drum roll please!) a total solar eclipse on August 21 at 28 degrees Leo. The August 21 total solar eclipse will be visible in most of the continental United Sates.  It will fall on the Moon of the US natal chart.  It will also fall on president-elect Trump’s Mars/Ascendant and will be square his midheaven.

If the current forecast sounds scary or just too disruptive, take comfort in the fact that we are experiencing a necessary part of a long-term cycle of change.  This period of unknowing and disruption is part of a greater Saturn/Uranus/Pluto transit configuration that is ushering in a whole new paradigm that we will start to see in 2020.  Disruption is usually necessary to foster change.  Above all, remember that this is a year when you can see fabulous breakthroughs in your work and personal life.  It is a year to be fearless and pioneering. Pay off your debts so you are free to seize opportunities quickly when they arise.  Most importantly, learn to go with the flow, see life as an adventure and know that year 2017 is a break-through year.  If you have had a log jam in your life where nothing has been happening, year 2017 can dramatically change that pattern.

Enjoy the ride and have a wonderful New Year!

Astrology Transits December 2016

A dream is the bearer of a new possibility, the enlarged horizon, the great hope. Howard Thurman

sunset-with-road

November ended with a new Moon in Sagittarius square the South Node in Gemini. The first week in December opens with high energy from that new Moon, the frenzy of activity generated by the Mars/Jupiter trine on December 1 and the quirky Mars/Uranus sextile on December 6. Lots of action there!

The theme this month is transformation of our personal myth and story to re-align ourselves with a more productive and spiritual way of being in the world. The Sun sextile Jupiter on December 9 and Mercury sextile Neptune on the 10th bestows a lovely expansive, communicative vibe with spiritual, compassionate overtones. The archetype of Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is one of truth, trust and positive, expansive energy. Neptune, when expressing its highest vibration, lends a loving spiritual overlay to the energy. The result is an opportune time to release the fears, angst and separateness that many of us have been feeling.

However, all is not roses and easy going this December. Jupiter in Libra is square the ongoing Pluto/Uranus square. Expect the unexpected along with explosions, disruptions and “over the top” actions and reactions. On December 13 the super Gemini full moon activates Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus and ignites the ongoing edgy energy. Some of the crazy energy we experienced during the Pluto/Uranus squares of the last several years will once again be felt. As I have previously mentioned, its best to stay centered and mindful during this onslaught of electric excitability. The good news is that this energy can also bring breakthroughs and break outs of previously stifled plans.

Each year around December 17 the Sun transits the Galactic Center of the Universe (at the center of our Milky Way galaxy) at approximately 26-27 degrees of Sagittarius. It is believed that the energy from the Sun/Galactic Center contact opens our subconscious mind. It is a special time in the year to release old emotional wounds and traumas and to state your intentions for the coming year. Sagittarius, the sign of freedom and truth, urges us to let go of all erroneous and limiting beliefs. This month can truly be a turning point in your life.

Try to get your shopping done before December 19, when Mercury stations retrograde at 15 degrees Capricorn. Retrograde Mercury aspects Pluto and (after the 21st) the Sun. Power struggles (both in the world and in your personal life) could be prominent at this time. Under Mercury retrograde it is wise to make sure you understand the issues and really listen and understand the other person in any personal conflicts. The best way to navigate any Mercury retrograde period is to be organized, to make sure you understand the issues and to really listen and understand the other person in any personal discussions or conflicts.

On December 24 and 25, Saturn is trine Uranus and Venus is trine Jupiter and sextile Saturn. I rather like this configuration as I believe Saturn will tame erratic Uranus. The easy aspects to Venus from Jupiter and Saturn will provide just the right mix of loving, optimistic, yet stable spirit to your holiday gatherings.

On the 26th Jupiter opposes Uranus and retrograde Mercury sextiles Neptune, followed on the 27th by a new Moon in Capricorn. The Capricorn new Moon is helpful in shaking off any lingering holiday emotions. Uranus, the harbinger of breakthroughs, breakdowns, surprises and renewal turns direct on December 29. Use the new Moon and Uranus to begin something new and exciting as they usher in the New Year.

The month ends on a lovely note when the Sun in Capricorn sextiles a Mars/Neptune conjunction in Pisces. This is excellent energy to meditate, enjoy music, romance or dance, or even to take a long restorative nap.
