Astrology Transits August 2017

“When we look up, it widens our horizons. we see what a little speck we are in the universe, so insignificant, and we all take ourselves so seriously, but in the sky, there are no boundaries. No differences of caste or religion or race.” ― Julia Gregson, East of the Sun

Lunar Eclipse

Two eclipses and the change into retrograde motion of both Mercury and Uranus highlight a month of awe-inspiring heavenly movement.

Uranus stationed retrograde on August 2 at 28 degrees Aries and finishes its retrograde on January 2, 2018 at 24 degrees Aries.  Planetary effects become stronger during their retrograde period because the energy is more concentrated.  It is significant that Uranus begins its retrograde exactly trine to the solar eclipse in Leo on August 21 at 28 degrees Leo.

Look for upsets of all kinds, whether perceived as “good” or “bad.”  Insights and creative ideas are overflowing and abundant.  In a word, “expect the unexpected!”

Jupiter in Libra forms an exact square with Pluto in Capricorn on August 4.  Though the square is exact on August 4th and is extra strong, this aspect will be with us until 2020.  It will be felt more at some times than others.  Both Jupiter and Pluto are big players in reshaping our reality.

When the planet of optimism (Jupiter) forms a challenging aspect to the planet of transformation (Pluto) there is a uptick in our motivations and ambitions, along with a greater chance of running into resistance from others.  You might find that people are in your face much more than usual. This square provides an excellent time to repair, refurbish and rebuild all kinds of things.

Pluto gives you the ability to stand up for what you believe is right, but can also make you too set in your ways when it comes to your beliefs.  Because of this, legal conflicts (Jupiter) can explode and/or escalate.  Think before you act.  Watch for new and expanding social consciousness platforms to manifest during this aspect.  Jupiter likes to see the bright side, while Pluto wants to show the dark underbelly.  It should be interesting!

The Lunar eclipse at 15 degrees Aquarius on August 7 begins the show.  In general, the Moon in Aquarius is a time to allow startling insights and inventive thoughts to enter your mind without censure.  It is a time to lighten the load mentally, physically and spiritually.  Fiery, action-oriented Mars is conjunct the Sun and in opposition to the Moon on the eclipse date.

Mercury retrograde begins on August 12 at 11 degrees Virgo.  It completes its retrograde motion on September 5 when it will station direct at 28 degrees Leo.  Mercury turns direct right on the solar eclipse degree addling a fated, karmic quality that makes this Mercury retrograde uncommonly important.  Your efforts to redo, rework, repair, heal and to let go of outworn/outgrown ideas, objects and people are especially significant during the month of August.

US total solar eclipse on August 21 at 28 degrees Leo.

Use the time between the lunar and solar eclipse to tune into your higher self to take advantage of this special time when the mystic veils are parted. You may find that you are able to contact divine guidance as never before.

The planetary picture for this eclipse is:
  • Sun and Moon conjunct
  • Sun and Moon trine Uranus
  • Sun and Moon conjunct Regulus, the fixed Star of Royalty
  • Ascendant trine the Part of Fortune
  • Mars Sextile Jupiter and Trine Uranus
  • Jupiter trine Saturn
  • Jupiter square Pluto

Some possible influences are:

  • High creativity
  • Important insights
  • Being given leadership roles
  • Being removed from leadership roles
  • High accomplishment, but with opposition from others
  • Unexpected events both “good” and “bad”
  • Forward movement around business, beginning to manifest after September 15.

Events that happened around May 9 and the end of May 2017 may have foreshadowed the events of this solar eclipse. Something that was put in place around that time could manifest around the time of the eclipse though the energy often does not completely manifest until later.

Eclipses act as wild cards so there is always an element of the unknown. The eclipse effect will vary considerably depending on your own birth chart. It will primarily affect those with the Sun, Moon or planets in the signs of Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus. Those with planets or angles in the late degrees of Leo/Aquarius will be affected most strongly.

Saturn turns direct on August 26 trine the North Node. I can almost hear the collective sigh of relief. Saturn retrograde has delayed key projects from moving forward and has brought a feeling of tiredness and even depression.

With the eclipses ushering in a new dynamic and the great task master (Saturn) turning direct, I expect the energy to noticeably change by September 15.

Astrology Transits June 2017
Compassion Vs. Anger

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion. — Dalai Lama

June comes out swinging with a strong Martian note combined with a heart centered need to connect and relate to others. As Mars finishes his journey through Gemini he is:

In opposition to Saturn,
Sextile the North Node,
Sextile Venus and Uranus, and
Square Chiron.

If that weren’t enough, he is also out-of bounds by declination. Any planet that is out-of-bounds becomes very strong and asserts itself in no uncertain terms. In a natal chart an out-of-bounds planet can appear to be the most important planet in the chart because of its assertive nature.

Let’s break down this Martian energy:

Mars Opposing Saturn is like stomping on the gas pedal while stepping on the brakes. There is a strong impetus for action, anger and aggression from Mars. At the same time, Saturn tries to reign in this fiery energy by urging us to reconsider, slow down and limit ourselves. The energy is a little (maybe a lot) schizoid. Think before you speak or act and realize that those around you are also feeling this crazy energy. Give others a wide berth and the benefit of the doubt.

Mars Sextile Venus and Uranus is a high energy, sexual vibe. You can get a lot done under this configuration and it is an optimum energy for starting things. However, it also makes you prone to rashness, so think before you act.

Mars Square Chiron urges us to consider how our actions will affect others and, at the same time, to protect ourselves against other’s hurtful actions.

Mars enters Cancer on June 4. Mars in Cancer brings heightened emotions that can trigger emotional overload around old emotional issues issues, especially old family issues, and home and real estate. The concept of patriotism and love for country can reach a flash point due to differing viewpoints. Think feelings and emotions combined with confrontations, anger and aggressiveness. Once again, use restraint when dealing with others, especially around sensitive issues. The Mars flash point is very low.

Mercury and Venus Are in Mutual Reception on June 6 easing the tensions somewhat. A mutual reception occurs when a planet and another planet are in each other’s signs. In this case Mercury is in Taurus, which is ruled by Venus, and Venus is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. A mutual reception assists the planets involved, because there is an ease and understanding between them. In this case, communication flows easily and we feel more love for others.

Also on June 6, Uranus at 27 Aries is trine the North Node at 27 Aquarius and sextile the South Node at 27 degrees Leo. Lot of action here (Aries). Pay attention to any insights you get during this aspect. You may find the solution to a long-standing problem or gain valuable insight on something that has been vexing you.

June 9 is another day when a lot is happening in the skies. The full moon in Sagittarius is conjunct Saturn and square Neptune. At the same time, Jupiter is awakening from its backward motion as it turns direct at 13 degrees Libra.

The full Moon Conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius can trigger an emotional reaction around anything that you perceive is holding you back. Watch for issues around truth (or lack thereof) both in your personal life and in the news. Something that you have let slide can now take on an amplified emotional investment under this full moon.

Full Moon square Neptune adds a bit of confusion or even double dealing to the mix if you are not acting at your highest spiritual level. On the flip side, this is an outstanding time to tune into your higher consciousness and to withdraw from the mundane chatter around you through yoga, meditation or other spiritual pursuits.

Neptune stations retrograde on June 16 at 14 degrees Pisces. It will be in retrograde motion until November 21, when it will station direct at 11 Pisces. For those of you with strong Pisces, Cancer or Scorpio energy, Neptune’s retrograde period brings a time of enhanced connection to your psychic abilities.

The Sun enters Cancer on June 21, joined by the new moon on the 24th, when there is a square to Chiron. This is another emotional period, especially for water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces). Issues around family, home, parents and real estate are front and center. There is high tension around those issues, but also the ability to heal some of the rifts that are present (Chiron).

Though Mars energy never really went away, its energy will dominate once again when it forms a charged t-square with Jupiter and Pluto at the end of the month. Watch out for:

Jupiter square Pluto (joined by the new moon on the 24th) brings over confidence (Jupiter) and the sense that you can do no wrong.  Any tendency to be overly dominant or aggressive (Pluto) is magnified 10 fold.  Watch how you act and stay away from those with such tendencies.  Small tiffs can easily escalate into a roaring inferno (Mars).  Overconfidence can cause rash, ill considered decisions.  Judgmental thoughts and actions will predominate and religious intolerance will be palpable.

Mars opposing Pluto square Jupiter ups the ante considerably.  As stated earlier Mars is very strong in June.  I picture this T-square as a bully with his hands on his hips and his legs firmly planted just daring anyone to confront him.  The slightest confrontation can precipitate unforeseen circumstances.  Be safe and pray for our world leaders during this long hot summer.

Mars trine Neptune on the 26th adds a note of compassion and spiritual caring to the volatile T-square.  This is a clear indication that the best way to counteract the out-of-bounds Mars, Pluto, Jupiter energy is to keep your wits about you, practice compassion toward others, even the bully, and use your intuition to stay centered and safe.

Be aware that this challenging energy has a very positive upside.  It can push us forward to confront our fears, take on new challenges and to burn any bridges that need to be burned.

Wishing you forward movement (Mars) without the anger and aggressiveness (Mars) of this exciting but challenging month!

May 2017, Astrological Transits That We Can Enbrace and Enjoy!

Life is like riding a bicycle.
To keep your balance you must keep moving.
   Albert Einstein

May brings welcome relief from the stagnant, yet chaotic and restless, energy that we all felt in April.  Anger, impatience, tiredness and frustration are now beginning to lift to be replaced by a more optimistic, yet grounded and realistic, energy pattern.

Venus went stationary direct on April 15 and Mercury follows in her footsteps by going stationary direct on May 3.  Jupiter continues its retrograde motion until June 8.  While Saturn and Pluto will remain retrograde, the retrograde energy is not felt as strongly on a day-to-day basis.  Make no mistake, the energy of retrograde Saturn and retrograde Pluto is still felt, it just doesn’t seem as urgent and stifling.

With the faster moving planets all moving forward and Saturn and Pluto retrograde, it is an excellent time to pursue your short-term goals, while also tweaking and improving your longer-term goals. It is easier to do so now with the new, lighter energy.

The Sun sextiles Neptune on May 3 bringer a dreamy quality to the day.  Nothing seems as hard-edged and urgent.  Kick back if you can and just enjoy the day.

That dreamy energy changes on May 9 when the Sun trines Pluto.  This trine gives you superb problem solving ability.  Your ability to concentrate and apply your willpower are intensified under this aspect.  Mercury conjunct Uranus on the 10th brings original, fresh (even surprising) ideas to aid you in sorting things out.

The veil is lifted on May 10 when the full Moon at 20 degrees Scorpio sextiles Pluto and trines Neptune.

Moon/Pluto aspects (especially with the full Moon) can bring up intense, buried and sometimes painful emotions.  However, it is an outstanding time to do deep meditation or to probe the depths of your motivations.

Old emotional patterns uprooted now may bring helpful ideas and insights at the May 25 new Moon at 4 degrees Gemini.

Then around May 11th and 12th we have some crazy Mars see-saw energy.

Mars square Neptune.  Mars square Neptune can bring questions around your life, your life direction and a general feeling of confusion.  This is not a good time to make decisions or to blindly follow the advice of others.  This transit can totally deflate your ego, so remember that it is only temporary (lasting only a day or two at most).  If possible spend time alone rather than mingling with others.

Mars trine Jupiter.  This is traditionally a risk-taking energy.  Risks taken now are likely to turn out well.  You have the desire and courage to make your own luck.  This is an extremely helpful aspect to further your career or to promote your business.

See what I mean by crazy and see-saw energy?  It seems that the universe is telling us to seek solitude so we can deal with any negative feelings and to then move forward optimistically and energetically.  Mercury trine Saturn and Mercury conjunct Uranus during this time period is, interestingly, giving us somewhat the same message.

Saturn trine Uranus on May 18 brings change (Uranus), but because of Saturn’s influence it isn’t a “wham” kind of change.  You have some control over how the change comes about.  This is a relatively slow moving transit so it is good for longer-term changes.  Learning a new craft or skill is especially favored under this transit.

Venus opposition Jupiter and then Venus square Pluto on May 19 through the 25th.

Mars sextile Neptune on May 28 is similar to Mars square Neptune discussed above, but the energy is milder and can be somewhat helpful.  It will bring a lower energy and, possibly, the need for solitude.  It is a good time to tune into your psychic abilities and to practice any spiritual disciplines.

The month ends with Mars opposite Saturn and Mars sextile Uranus.  Mars opposite Saturn acts like this:

  • You throw accelerant on a fire (Mars)
  • You douse the fire with water (Saturn)
  • You add kindling to the fire (Mars)
  • You throw a fire blanket over the fire to put it out (Saturn)
  • Repeat . . . . . .

This one requires lots of patience and you may have to bite your tongue and suppress your anger and simmering frustration quite a bit.

Mars sextile Uranus acts like this:

  • An accident happens (Mars/Uranus)
  • “Well it probably won’t be so bad after all – this insurance company is cooperating and it wasn’t my fault.”
  • Your car breaks down.
  • The repairs aren’t as bad as you thought they would be.
  • Repeat . . . . . .

June brings Venus trine Saturn (actually quite good) and Jupiter turning stationary direct (very good).

Enjoy the forward momentum!

April 2017 Astrology & Retrograde Planets

“Understanding and accepting the decisions you have made, good or bad, will make you bolder. Reflection helps punctuate your past and indent your future.” ― Farshad Asl, The “No Excuses” Mindset: A Life of Purpose, Passion, and Clarity

Retrograde planets are about taking time for reflection, checking systems and processes and revising, rethinking, redoing and clearing out the cob webs in your life.  The more you straighten, tidy and set things right, the more you can productively move forward when the planets resume direct motion.

The month of April is noteworthy for its many retrograde planets:

Jupiter has been retrograde since February 7 in Libra,
Saturn turns retrograde on April 7 at 27 degrees Sagittarius,
Mercury turns retrograde on April 10 at 4 degrees Taurus,
Pluto turns retrograde on April 21 at 19 degrees Capricorn,

and finally, Venus turns direct on April 16 at 26 degrees Pisces.

Venus Retrograde

I have to confess that the fallout from Venus retrograde has caught up with me. As I wrote last month’s newsletter, I was thinking, “gee, I’m am so glad that I don’t have any relationship problems. I am not involved in a romantic relationship and the relationship with all of my friends is going well.” Not so fast. Right after I posted the newsletter, problems surfaced with one of my friends. Never fear, when the planets are involved, issues that need attention will surface one way or another.

Venus is still retrograde as April begins. On April 3 Venus retrograde moves from Aries back into Pisces. The Venusian emphasis is now on spiritual matters, creativity, dreams, daydreams and psychic feedback. Venus is exalted in Pisces so its retrograde motion is easier to deal with here. Venus was not comfortable during its journey into Aries.

Venus retrograde advises us to attend to our security and survival needs, money matters, comfort level, and to all relationship matters.

On April 14 retrograde Venus conjuncts Chiron just before it resumes forward motion on the 15th. Venus conjunct Chiron brings healing energy to those matters that have been stressed by Venus retrograde. I love how it just touches Chiron before it moves forward. It is as though it is scooping up the healing energy before it once again moves forward into Aries. This is especially good energy for healing relationship and money issues.

Saturn Retrograde

Saturn turns retrograde on April 7 at 27 degrees Sagittarius. Saturn will continue its retrograde motion until August 25, 2017, when it will resume forward motion at 21 degrees Sagittarius. Saturn is the great task master and is superb at showing us our limitations (and where we are limiting ourselves) and pointing out where we need to work harder and/or smarter. Saturn in Sagittarius affects matters having to do with foreign travel, lawsuits, higher education, philosophy and religion. Truth and the lack of truth will continue to make the headlines. Saturn retrograde is an excellent time to simplify, streamline and revamp any business or employment processes that have become redundant or inefficient.

If you are attending college, this would be a great time to reassess your course load and to re-evaluate your chosen major. Are you still on the right path with your educational goals? If you have been considering starting college or taking a specialized course of study, this is a good time to make plans toward those goals.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury turns retrograde on April 10 at 4 degrees Taurus. It will turn direct on May 4 at 24 degrees Aries. As always, be sure to back up your computer and make sure your virus scanning software is up-to-date and working properly. When communicating with others, it is always a good idea to repeat any directions or meeting schedules. Garbled messages and miscommunication is a common result of Mercury retrograde.

Venus in Pisces stations direct on April 15. I love the timing on this one. It’s a cosmic joke! Venus rules our money and resources so it is quite fitting that it would turn direct on tax day in the United States. If you haven’t already filed your tax return by the April 18th due date, take another look at it before you file it. You may find extra deductions that you didn’t previously notice.

Pluto Retrograde

Pluto stations retrograde on April 21 at 19 degrees Capricorn. Pluto in Capricorn is highly symbolic of much of the “interesting” government and business news that is so prevalent these days. As Pluto moves retrograde, look for new secrets and revelations come to light. By the time Pluto turns direct on September 28, we might have an entirely new view of business and government. Pluto acts slowly even when direct, so I don’t expect a significant increase in daily drama (thank goodness). However, the overall effect could be significant.

In your personal life, Pluto retrograde is a fantastic time to look at old karmic conditions and to do the deep healing work that is required. A courageous foray into resolving issues from the past that have been holding you back can bring impressive results in freeing yourself from old hangups and issues.
