The full moon lunar eclipse of December 21, 2010 highlights the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity, which brings in the themes of communication, education, higher thought, intelligence and the more negative energies of fanaticism, arrogance, overindulgence, rationalization, duplicity and amorality.
Because the Moon and the Sun are both at the all-important 29 degrees of their respective signs (Moon 29Gemini20 and Sun 29Sagittarius20) an urgent message of change is part of the mix. Any planet or light at 29 degrees of a sign brings endings and change. Something has matured and is no longer needed. It is time to transform something or to end it and to build something new. However, it is wise to be aware that a planet at 29 degrees can cause a person to waiver, to go back and forth and to evaluate and re-evaluate endlessly, until finally, exhausted with the decision making process, that person may just make a rash and hasty decision to change things without using rational thought.
Then too, all eclipses bring in a time of change, a time to correct our course and move forward in a new or altered way toward our goals. This lunar eclipse asks us to take a long, hard look at the issues in our life that are holding us back or that are keeping us from fulfilling our destiny and to make decisions about a more positive, life-affirming way of meeting those challenges.
This particular lunar eclipse becomes even more powerful because of its location near the galactic center at 26 degrees Sagittarius. (See my previous article on Pluto when it was located at the Galactic center before entering Capricorn.) The lunar eclipse location near the powerful Galactic center magnifies and adds power and focus to the energies already being manifested.
It is also noteworthy that the eclipse opposition of the Moon and Sun are square the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces. Because Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, the sign that holds the Sun during this eclipse, the themes of compassion (Pisces) and truth (Jupiter) are very much in focus. Uranus brings unexpected change like a lightning bolt and new ways of thinking and acting.
In short, this lunar eclipse brings an unprecedented opportunity to bring about a new way of being with regard to others with whom we share Mother Earth. We are called to act in a higher, more authentic way (Jupiter) and to keep our mind on the oneness of all beings (Pisces). Indeed, in light of the world situation at this time, this lunar eclipse presents an opportune time for each of us to focus on this spirit of oneness with all others.

Interesting yes. That falls (29 degrees Gemini) in the middle of my 7th house and I have natal Sun/Mercury/Jupiter/Mars all in Gemini.

It is impossible to really tell without knowing your full birth chart. However, it is certain that the 1st house (self and ego self) versus the 7th house (relationships of all kinds) will be a focus. With so many planets in the 7th, relationships or the lack thereof have always been a major area of learning for you. It will be a very good time to review how you are doing with regard to healthy self preservation versus giving of yourself in relationships. Are you giving too much? Not enough? etc.
I have Neptune in Virgo at 29’55 in my 3rd house. Needless to say, I am very anxious about this eclipse with the Gemini/Sag axis squaring it plus the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction opposing it. I’ve gone through some difficult years and am seriously considering leaving the U.S. and moving to France, by myself, if some financial resources materialize for me to do so! If your Moon is between 20 degrees Gemini and 9 or so degrees Cancer the eclipse moon/eclipse sun axis would be within orb of your Gemini moon and it would have a significant effect. The applying aspect 20 degrees Gemini to 29 degrees 55 minutes Gemini would have more of an impact. The area of your life that it will impact depends on the house of the chart in which it is located. As always, you can’t tell for sure how something will play out without seeing the whole chart.

Thanks for your comment. I have removed the birth date from your comment for security reasons. The thing everyone needs to remember is that every eclipse is very different. Each eclipse is part of a series of eclipses that are called the Saros series. So, in addition to having a certain flavor by transit each one also carries a flavor from the Saros series to which it belongs.
This particular eclipse is more about communication, service, work, etc. Because your Sun is in the 12th it will also prompt you to deal with things from the past that you have not yet fully confronted. That is actually a good thing as long as you do the work required.
As far as losing relationships, the eclipse of June 26, 2010, which occurred on the Cancer/Capricorn axis, very well could have caused relationship problems for you because of your Cancer 7th house. It was a very emotional time for many.

Yes, the closer the aspect the more you will feel it. I rather disagree that lunar eclipses are not as strong as solar. It depends on what the sun and moon are hitting in a chart, the house and so on. Many, many of my clients had a very rough time with the Cancer/Capricorn lunar eclipse on June 26, 2010, while they sailed through the solar eclipse that came a couple of weeks later. In the first, there was an opposition of the Sun and Moon with the Moon in Capricorn. The moon doesn’t do well in Capricorn (emotional moon in an “all business” sign. In the second case, both the moon and sun were in Cancer so they at least were compatible (the ego self combined with the feeling self).
Anyway, in your case Mercury retrograde will pretty much affect you as it always has. It affects you more strongly than some others because you have fairly strong Mercury energy in your chart. At the eclipse Mercury is moving away from your sun (a separating conjunction) so it is not as involved in the eclipse dynamics as it would have been if moving forward over the Sun. You will feel the eclipse in any close relationships (not just intimate partners). Watch what you say for a week or so before and afterward as you may be more apt to say something you later regret (Sag sun opposing Gemini Sun). Also, you and those close to you may be more emotional than usual. You will have natal Pluto in the 10th square the eclipse. Be especially careful of what you say at work and in public also.
Thank you so much for replying. It’s funny, but I’m already picking up on that whole feeling of needing to be careful in what I say to others. I have been feeling the need to withdrawal from others a bit and just lay low til some of this energy passes. This is probably because I have already said some things that I wish I hadn’t. In the past two weeks, I have said several things and immediately got that feeling in pit of my stomach. The past ten-twelve years of my life have been filled with some pretty heavy planetary influences, Pluto and Saturn included. I’ve come a long way, but I’m restless and starting to step out of my comfort zone a bit and beginning to interact with others more. I have mixed feelings about Pluto. I believe I’ve been transformed in some pretty amazing ways over the past ten years by Pluto’s energy, but change did not come easy with Pluto. It was a dark journey through my first house, but so worth it! Pluto squares and oppositions are not new to me. Saturn is also transiting my 10th house, now. I believe Saturn’s rewards are coming, as I have risen to it’s challenges. The lunar eclipse will activate your 12th/6th house axis so issues pertaining to those houses would be highlighted. With the moon in the 12th house you may have had a hard time expressing your emotions or, with the moon in Gemini, you may make light of what you do feel. A 12th house moon gives you quite a bit of intuition and empathy but it isn’t always easy to express. The 6th house part of the equation relates to your work life, service to others, health or everyday matters. Is there something that you would like to be doing (6th) that you have not allowed yourself to do that you are emotional about (moon in 12)? There could be many other explanations. In any case focus on expressing your emotions more.

I’m not sure. I looked back to the year 1900 and forward to 2050 and did not find any. A lunar eclipse in the same Saros series occurs on December 20, 2029 at 29 degrees Gemini and their is another lunar eclipse in a different Saros series on December 20, 2048 at 29 degrees Gemini. However, those dates are, of course, not on the solstice.

The biggest things to look for are the conjunctions, oppositions and squares that the eclipse makes or sets off, then and only then look at the rest of the chart. The eclipse sun in 8th (Sag) and moon in 2nd (Gemini) are square natal Mars in your Virgo in the 5th house. That brings in a 2nd house, 5th house, and 8th house dynamic. It will set off something to do with values or money (2nd) possibly coming from someone else (8th). Are you by any chance looking for an insurance or other settlement? Also the natal Mars square the transiting Sun/Moon is also opposing Jupiter Uranus. Possible sudden happening relating to group creative endeavors, children, etc. These are guesses through looking at the chart very briefly, but hopefully you get the idea.

I’m curious to know what you think of having surgery, on December 21st. My father is scheduled to have a second full knee replacement surgery on the 21st. The eclipse will fall in his 10th house (the 12/5 New Moon was conjunct his IC), but what concerns me is that the the lunar eclipse will be conjunct my ascendant (27 deg, 51), squaring my natal Virgo Sun (22 deg, 40), Venus (27 deg, 56) & Pluto (29 deg, 17) in the 4th house of home. Although, the lunar eclipse conjunct my ascendant could have had to do more with my grandmother dying, on 11/21, exactly 1 month prior to the 12/21 eclipse.

Generally the eclipse on Jupiter in gemini in the 5th house would cause a lot of action around love affairs, creativity, children, etc. Due to the polarity there would be activity in the 11th house – hopes and wishes, groups, friends, etc. There is much more to the chart than this, so this is very much a partial answer.

What a lovely thing for your moon and your husband’s moon and venus to have that contact in the 7th house. Because your moon at the end of the sign it carries the energy over into the next house. I wouldn’t worry about this eclipse. What a good opportunity to sit down with your husband and have a loving discussion about where your relationship has been, what you need to change and your goals for the future. The eclipse falling in your first house will also have an impact on how you appear to others. You may decide to change your appearance in some way.

I am unable to tell what area of your life it will affect you without a valid time. The moon moves very fast, so without a valid time it is impossible to tell without a birth time or rectified birth time. I’m sorry.

Sheryl, the eclipse Moon is in a separating conjunction to your natal Jupiter and the eclipse Sun is in your 12th house. Your house of work, service, and health are highlighted (6th) so it would be a beneficial time to make changes in that area. Let go of those things that are no longer working and prepare for new energy to come in. The 12th house eclipse Sun also points to letting go of those things that have kept you in bondage. The Gemini full moon lunar eclipse will touch your 6th house of work and service as it squares your natal Sun in that house and also transiting Uranus/Jupiter in Pisces in the 6th house. So, your work conditions will very likely be changing. It could even be a sudden change, but would be beneficial. Remember also, that regarding aspects we must always look at the axis. So, in this case, the eclipse sun in Sagittarius in the third house must also be looked at. That would point to lots of short trips, communication, teaching, etc.
Also, the Capricorn solar eclipse on January 4, 2011, will be in a separating conjunction with your natal Mars, and square transiting Saturn and natal Pluto in Libra in your first house. Think about changing your appearance in some way to make yourself more marketable. Saturn and Pluto in the 1st may have you a little beaten down. You didn’t give your year of birth so I am unable to give you a definitive answer. Generally, I would urge you not to make any decision until well after Mercury goes direct and the eclipses are over as eclipses (lunar eclipses in particular) tend to make us very emotional. Decisions made now may be rash and not well thought out.

Hello Lynn, I can see that it has been a struggle for you with natal Pluto conjunct Saturn in your sixth house of work. Lots of hard work there. Realize though that Saturn is the taskmaster that does in due time bring rewards. What transiting Saturn (now at 16 degrees Libra) reaches approximately 22 degrees Libra next October you may be rewarded for all of your hard work.
In the meantime, the Gemini full moon lunar eclipse falls in your 8th house (Sun) and 2nd house (moon). The 8th and 2nd house axis highlights your money (2nd) and other people’s money (8th). Are you receiving child support from your ex? The Sun in the 8th would indicate that you could get some financial help from other people. It is a little fuzzy, however, because the transiting Sun in the 8th is conjunct natal Neptune. So be aware that what is promised may not appear.
More positive is the Capricorn solar eclipse on January 4, 2011. It falls in your 10th house of career. The solar eclipse is all about new beginnings. What did really stand out was that the eclipse axis highlights your Virgo Sun with an out of sign opposition to your 4 degree Aries North Node. This could be the year that you begin work to fulfill your destiny in this life time (North Node). That certainly is profound!

Didem. I think you have been feeling the transiting planets going over your 6th house Pluto in Libra and Jupiter in Scorpio. It seems like there might have been some pressure in the area of work, but ultimately with a good outcome; also shows some fluctuations or sudden changes in your relationships. Quince, I doubt if the upcoming lunar or solar eclipse are anything to worry about. The main contact is, of course, to your Gemini Sun at 24 degrees and your Virgo Moon at 25 degrees. The eclipse is at 29 degrees so it will be in a separating aspect to your Sun and Moon. However, you may feel the energy prior to the actual eclipse. The eclipse may create some challenges having to do with friends, groups and your hopes and wishes (11th) and also with lots of short trips, communications, classes, siblings, etc. I would imagine that Mercury retrogrades are felt quite strongly by you because of your Gemini Sun and Virgo Moon and the emphasis on your third house. However, Mercury normally is more annoying than significantly detrimental.

Happy birthday. I think that is rather cool to have your birthday on the solstice with an eclipse! I don’t think the eclipse is any cause for you to worry, but it is significant for you. The eclipse is right on the midpoint of your natal Sun and North Node (and of course conjunct them) in your 2nd house of resources, security and how you earn your money. It is opposing Saturn (out of sign in Cancer) and South Node in the eighth house of other peoples money, insurance, taxes and your partners money. Because of the nodal involvement it is a strong message to let go of those ways of earning money that are no longer working for you and to dare to step out into working with those areas of life that really excite you. Hi Lisa, You didn’t tell me where you were born so I couldn’t draw up an exact chart. However, as I have previously said, the birth moon describes what we need to make us happy. I believe that the eclipse will certainly highlight this concept Spend some time thinking about what really makes you happy and try to work those concepts into your job as it progresses. Hopefully your new career has something to do with communications. Your Moon squares your Virgo planets (Venus, Mars and North Node). Your ideas around organization, order, and perfection may be challenged. I believe the intensity you are feeling is the karmic implications of the North and South Nodes. Keet, The eclipse seems to be challenging you to examine your creative side, your hopes and wishes and to somehow be more at one with the world. Notice that your moon at 00 degrees Libra in the 8th is in an out of sign square to your natal Jupiter. It is calling for you to honor your moon (your true heart’s desire and what you need to make you happy). Moon in Libra points to a love of beauty, harmony, etc. Then 29 degrees Sag Moon falls just in your 11th house (and in some ways connects the 10th and 11th house) and also puts a focus on your 11th house Venus. Also note that your intercepted Pisces in the 1st is being highlighted. It connects your first house of self with your 2nd house of values. Rabbit, I didn’t have your birth city so used San Diego (for southern CA). According to that chart the eclipse would be in your 10th house of career all right, but it does not aspect a planet there so will not be strongly felt in that area. It does conjunct your north node (27 Virgo in 1st house) and south node (27 Pisces in 7th house). That would denote letting go of habit patterns relating to giving too much or idealizing your partner too much in relationships and to be more discriminating when it comes to relationships. Eclipses are not necessarily bad as many people think, but they do often cause changes.

Christine, you do not have any planets that are strongly aspected by the eclipse. However, Mercury, Sun, North Node, Pluto and Mars are all transiting through your 9th house of justice on that day. Mercury and Sun are favorable, while Pluto and Mars are questionable. Transiting Venus is conjunct your natal Uranus in the 7th house, which rules jury verdicts, lawyers and the plaintiff. Some question how it will come out since I’m not sure if you are the plaintiff or defendant. In any case, the 7th house aspects could point to a guardedly favorable outcome, but with some unexpected news or outcome.

InPain, I’m so sorry for your pain in hearing the news about your marriage. I think part of what makes it really hard is that you have Saturn in Taurus in the 7th house of marriage. To you, marriage is something you take very seriously and you were in it for the long haul through thick and thin. However, that Saturn is not significantly aspected by any of your husbands planets. I feel that your relationship has also been a bit of a battlefield. His Pluto (power issues) is tightly conjunct your South Node. This would indicate that were somewhat acclimated to power issues through the past (past life or past in this life, you choose). In addition your Uranus/Jupiter conjunction is conjunct his Mercury/Uranus so it is more of the same. This indicates that each of you has, in some way, kept a part of himself back from any kind of commitment (Uranus) probably because of the Pluto contacts. All in all, I feel that the relationship has always been problematic. As painful as his betrayal is, it will free you to find someone who is more in tune with what you really need in a relationship. I hope this helps; I know it is very hard to be betrayed.
Thanks for the Reply. We decided to work on our marriage and rebuild trust. His Ex is not in this country and he says there was nothing going on except friendship. Do I believe him?? NO. But we have both been thru so much together and marriage was strong and happy before this. We decided to give it another chance and says there is nobody else in his life more important than his family. He says I am the only one who loves and ex is more like a friend. I won the opportunity to work as a paid intern for a TV station and am doing that work and learning more about TV marketing now. But it doesn’t pay as much as my previous job at all (I was laid off in July around the peak of this year’s T-Square). I am also trying to study Interior design so that I can transition to that in the future (this is where my heart is). I currently work in marketing and it’s helping me pay to go back to school. I recently was called for a marketing management job for a yoga products company. And that interview is on Dec 30th. I totally believe in the mind/body connection that yoga and meditation help foster. I really want this job, but I have doubts about my abilities at times. I know I’m at marketing management level, I just feel like my chances for getting this position have constantly been blocked in the past (and the chance to have a great salary as well!!!) and I’m afraid that will happen again. This job will probably give me the income needed to go back to school at night. But, may also provide a time challenge as well…So much to think about and I haven’t even had the interview!
I feel like my life is in the air and I’m not sure where everything will settle. Probably due to Uranus transiting in my 1st house I guess…
