Void of Course Moon

Electional astrology is the process of finding the best time to hold an event such as a wedding, start a new business, go on an important interview, buy or sell real estate, have surgery, go on a trip, etc. One of the most important elements of a successful electional astrology reading is to make sure that the event does not start on a void of course moon.

Because the moon moves very quickly through the zodiac and only spends approximately 2 ½ days in each sign of the zodiac, it is an excellent tool for timing events. In fact, when I do a birth chart rectification for someone who does not know their time of birth, I always use the transits of the moon as a factor to determine the exact timing of a life event.

A void of course moon occurs when the moon in its current sign has made its last major aspect to any of the planets before it moves to the next sign. The moon still has “moon energy” but because it is not contacting any other planet the energy has nowhere to go. The energy simply becomes “void” or not easily felt. Electional astrologers frequently use the term “nothing will come of it” when they encounter a void of term moon while doing an astrological election reading for a client. If “nothing will come of it,” it is easy to see why you would not want to see a void of course moon at the start of an important life event.

However, a void of course moon is an excellent time to meditate, do contemplative yoga, clean out clutter, organize and to just enjoy life. It can often be a very good time to finish up jobs that are already started. Phones typically will not ring very much during a void of course so it is easier to finish a task uninterrupted by distractions.

As stated above, a void of course moon occurs when the moon in its current sign has made its last major aspect to any of the planets before it moves to the next sign. It remains void of course until it moves into the next sign. The void of course can last anywhere from a few minutes to more than two days. The following charts show the void of course moon for several months in 2010 and 2011. An example of the September 2010 chart is as follows:

At one minute past midnight Eastern Standard Time on September 3, 2010, the moon was at 28 degrees, 23 minutes Gemini. It was making several aspects, including a square to Uranus at 29 degrees, 20 minutes Pisces (which was the last possible aspect it could make in that sign). It was not void of course at that time.

However, by 1:41 AM the moon had moved to to 29 degrees, 20 minutes of Gemini. It was now void of course because it was past the last aspect (the square to Uranus at 29 degrees 20 minutes Pisces) and it had not yet entered the new sign of Cancer.

Note on the September 2010 void of course moon table that the moon was no longer void of course at 2:52 AM because it had now entered a new sign.

.Hopefully, these void of course moon tables will be helpful to you to use as the first step in determining the best time to perform or not perform an action. If you would like a full electional reading, complete the form under “Contact Me” at the top of this web page and I will contact you to set up a full astrology reading to find the best time to schedule your important event.

All of the times in the following charts are shown for the Eastern Time Zone. You will need to adjust the times for your own time zone.

Also be aware that the time will change with Daylight Savings Time. For instance, the times shown from September 2010 through November 7, 2010 are given in Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Eastern Standard Time begins on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:00 AM. Eastern Daylight Savings Time then returns on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 AM.
