It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. — Alan Cohen inspirational author
This year’s spring eclipse season is exceptionally dynamic. It has brought, and will continue to bring, big changes, angst and fluctuating moods amidst the uncertain signals from the universe. Many, if not most, of us are feeling as though we are sailing in a rough ocean on a small boat without our sea legs. That feeling will continue through the first part of April.
The energy of the March 20 solar eclipse is triggered once again on March 30 and 31 when Mercury enters Aries and the sun conjuncts the South Node at 10 degrees Aries and opposes the North Node in Libra. The Nodes have a karmic signature and their position in relation to the Moon is what allows an eclipse to happen. The Sun and the Nodes indicate a “turning of the page.” The focus will be on what you have been resisting, especially regarding courageously moving toward your destiny. The Sun (you and your personal best) conjunct the South Node emphasizes letting go of the past and those things that no longer serve you (South Node). Look to the natal house that contains 5 to 15 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) to find the life area where the change needs to happen. Any contact of the transiting planets with your natal planets or angles can be significant.
The high octane lunar eclipse occurs on April 4 with the Sun at 14 degrees Aries conjunct Uranus, the Moon at 14 degrees Libra and both the Sun and Moon squaring Pluto. In addition, Mercury is conjunct the South Node. The sky contains an overabundance of impetuous, radical energy. Things are being shaken loose and realigned. Expect the unexpected and be careful while traveling during the week before and after the eclipse. My best advice is to just go with the flow while keeping your wits about you. Expect emotional reactions from yourself and others, along with fluctuating opinions and stances. Emotions and beliefs will be running hot and cold.
Jupiter turns stationary direct on April 8 at 12 degrees Leo. You can now move forward optimistically with those things that had to be revised or put on the back burner when Jupiter turned retrograde on December 8, 2014. The Sun conjunct Mercury on the 9th brings more clarity and focus.
Pluto stations retrograde on April 17 at 15 degrees Capricorn, where it continues its retrograde motion until September 24, 2015. As Pluto slowly moves away from its square with Uranus, you should start to feel some relief from the recent intensity. With Saturn already retrograde in Sagittarius until August 1, 2015, this spring and summer would be an ideal time to go over old plans and ideas and throw out what is no longer working. The good thing about these two planets in retrograde is that they will allow you to take charge of things (Pluto) and to build a more secure foundation (Saturn) under any plans that you have been making. Then in late summer and early fall you will be in a position to move forward confidently.
Breathe a sigh of relief on April 20 when the Sun enters Taurus where it joins Mercury and Mars. The stable Taurean energy is a relief after the predominantly Arian sky that we have been experiencing. This is an excellent time to move forward with plans. Things that have been chaotic or have simply not materialized as you would like, will now be more stable. Financial matters are especially favored under the Taurus planets.
Once again, I am in awe of the way that the planets nudge us toward our true desires. The upheaval of the Uranus/Pluto square was literally a planetary fight between the old and the new. The two eclipses cracked our hard shell and, in some cases brought us to our knees, so that we would be open to a more fulfilling way of life. The only thing left for us to do is to have the courage to move forward even when the road is not always clear and to find our true security in a new way of being.
It was one of those March days when the Sun shines hot and the wind blows cold; when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. — Charles Dickens
The month of March is a lot like the weather. It begins on an exciting and positive note and ends somewhat quietly with lots of stormy weather in between. March opens with Mercury in Aquarius opposing Jupiter in Leo and trine Uranus and Venus in Aries. There is an abundance of optimism (Jupiter) in this aspect, as well as a hearty does of innovation, and forward thinking (Uranus) ideas (Mercury). This is a “let me soar” pattern. It works best if you banish the censor from your thoughts. You know the thoughts that say “what makes you think you could do that?” Use the plentiful supply of creative ideas to make a game plan of what it will take to accomplish your goals. Be sure to leave plenty of room for “a ha” moments and workable thoughts that come from out of the blue. The Mercury/Jupiter opposition could bring results that will surprise you.
During the month of March, Venus trines Jupiter, then opposes Uranus and finally squares Pluto. This is truly a breakthrough aspect. I love that the easy energy of the trine is followed by the challenging opposition and square. That is a clear signal from the universe that to reap the many rewards of this transit you must do the work (opposition – challenges from others, and square – personal challenges that you need to overcome to collect the prize). This is a time to be bold, to take calculated risks and to make yourself visible to those who can help you. A hidden blessing of this transit is that it will make it easier for you to let go of unproductive, detrimental things and problematic people that you have been holding on to. Jupiter loves to fill an empty space with his blessings. You will have ample time to take advantage of this energy because Jupiter will be flirting with Uranus until the end of July.
The full moon in Virgo on the 5th is trine Pluto, and the Sun is sextile Pluto on that day. This planetary lineup is custom made to correct and fine tune your plans. Because full moon energy is always about your emotions, be sure to add a healthy dose of emotion to your hopes, wishes, dreams and plans. Emotion plus hard work and belief is the magic elixir to help you accomplish your fondest desires.
The energy turns problematic and challenging the week of March 9th through the 14th (and continues to a lesser degree throughout April) when Mars trines Jupiter, conjuncts Uranus and squares Pluto. The vibes bring a lot of “in your face energy.” Someone around you (let’s hope it’s not you) may be spoiling for a fight. Be aware of high voltage, confrontational energy on March 15 when the Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus and Mars in Aries. Be especially careful if you have cardinal planets (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) near 15 degrees; be extra careful at work as you could get caught up in office wars and be careful while driving as you could be more accident prone. On the plus side, you will be feeling more assertive, which is good energy for moving forward with your plans. The best way to handle this challenging energy is to stay mindful as you go about your daily business.
On March 14 Saturn turns retrograde at 4 degrees Sagittarius. You will be most affected by retrograde Saturn if your birthday is between November 18 to 28, February 15 to 25, May 17 to 27 or August 18 to 29; or if you have planets or angles in your birth chart at 29 degrees Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius or at zero to 6 degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces. Look to the houses where these planets are located to determine the life area where you will need to focus on responsibility and restructuring. Saturn will travel retrograde in Sagittarius until June 15, 2015, when it will re-enter Scorpio and continue its retrograde motion until August 3, when it resumes direct motion at 28 degrees Scorpio.
Saturn forms a challenging square to Neptune during its retrograde motion. Be careful that you do not become overly worried, critical and pessimistic during this time (Saturn in Scorpio). Instead, focus more on how you can be more compassionate and helpful to others (Neptune in Pisces). A Saturn/Neptune square can bring miscommunication, lack of clarity and a general feeling of mental fogginess. Take care of your health, get plenty of sleep and rest, eat more fruits and vegetables and fewer heavy foods.
On the 16th we have the 7th and final exact square between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. This energy has been extremely disruptive during the last seven to eight years; and from March until the end of April the intensity again reaches a peak. Watch for volatility in your life and on the world scene. Mother Earth may be more prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and (with Mars in the picture) we could be hearing about fires and explosions of monumental proportions. After the end of April this disruptive energy begins to lessen. We will be in a period of change and transformation for many years, but because the intensity is weaker, the rebuilding process can be pursued in earnest. Astrology promises that, if you make the needed changes, you will find yourself in a much better place by the end of the year and, in particular, the coming years.
We have a total solar eclipse on March 20, 2015, when the super new moon is at 29 degrees Pisces. The sign of Pisces and 29 degrees both denote a time of finishing up and the end of a cycle. You are likely to be strongly affected by this Solar Eclipse if your birthday is March 18 to 22; June 18 to 22; September 20-24; or December 20 to 23; or if you have planets or angles in your birth chart of 28 to 29 degrees Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius, or zero-one degrees Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. The house where the eclipse falls or aspects your planets or angles is where you will be completing something in your life.
The solar eclipse is followed 12 hours later by the spring equinox when the Sun enters zero degree Aries. The spring equinox is like an astrological new year when one cycle ends and another begins. This is especially true this year with the eclipse falling at 29 degrees Pisces, closely followed by the equinox.
On a lighter note remember: “Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.” — Doug Larson
There is no use trying,” said Alice. “One can’t believe impossible things.” “I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” — Lewis Carroll from Alice in Wonderland
The month of February begins on a mystical, romantic, inspirational, and creative note when Venus conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. The first week of February would be an opportune time to tell those close to you how much they mean to you. If there is a situation where you are at odds with someone, the soft, healing energy on February 8 when Venus joins Chiron in Pisces, could help you smooth things over. Just be aware that with Mercury retrograde and with the sometimes fuzzy Piscean energy, you will need to make sure that your words and intent are very clear so there is no confusion.
At the same time, we are being called to let go of some of the things that we thought were true about ourselves and to be true to our authentic selves. The month opened with the Sun conjunct retrograde Mercury in Aquarius opposing Jupiter in Leo prompting the questions: What is true and what only seems to be true about me, my hopes and wishes, and my ability to achieve them. How am I like everyone else and part of all humanity (Aquarius) and how am I my own, unique, very special person (Leo)?
Our cellular memory has been activated with Pluto’s long square to Uranus. It is now intensified by the conjunction of Uranus with the South Node in Aquarius. Old memories and ways of being are now challenged by innovative, even shocking, new ideas. Something is slowly opening up in your psyche. Use the time until February 11, when Mercury resumes direct motion, to reformulate and repurpose old memories into new workable solutions. February 6th, when the Sun opposes Jupiter is an especially opportune time to start that process.
Watch for synchronicities and signs on February 3 when the full moon conjuncts Jupiter in Leo and trines Uranus in Aquarius. Then act on your newfound knowledge on the 6th when the Sun opposes Jupiter. It is as if the universe is challenging you to move into a time of celebrating yourself and to go forth confidently. You will be able to finalize any loose ends or plans after Mercury ends its retrograde motion on the 11th.
On Valentine’s Day, Venus conjoins Mars in Pisces and squares the Moon in Sagittarius bringing lots of passionate, loving energy. Let go of who “is right” and just enjoy the vibes.
There is a lot of action in the skies from the 18th through the 25th. The new moon (moon conjunct the Sun) at 29 degrees Aquarius on the 18th is another super moon. Twenty-nine degrees is a significant degree in astrology. It brings to mind a diver poised on the diving board, checking his or her form, and then jumping into the depths of the water when the time is right. Later in the day, when the Sun and Moon move to zero degrees Pisces, the energy will have changed dramatically. We will shift from being in our head into being more in our heart.
Mars and Venus form a new relationship cycle when Mars moves into Aries on the 19th, followed by Venus on the 20th. You may actually feel the change in the energy around you —you, and those around you, will be fired up, energized, ready to break new ground and to move forward. Of course, all of this Martian energy can also bring aggression, anger and rash actions. Be aware of others’ agitated mood and reckless actions and make sure you are not giving out angry and reckless vibes yourself. Drive carefully and mindfully.
The runaway Mars in Aries energy is tempered on the 23rd through the 25th when Venus and Mars trine Saturn, and the Sun conjuncts Neptune and squares Saturn. This is a very good time to ground your new ideas and to lay a foundation (Saturn) that will carry your project or connection to the next level.
All in all the month presents you with a very positive atmosphere in which to believe “impossible things” (Neptune, Pisces, Venus and Moon) and to make them a reality (Mars and Saturn).
