 March 2016 promises to be a life-changing month for many of us due to a solar eclipse on March 9 at 18 degrees Pisces and a lunar eclipse on March 23 at 3 degrees Libra/Aries.
All eclipses denote change and often mark a major turning point in your life. Because the solar eclipse occurs at a Supermoon, when the Moon is closer to the earth, the emotional energy will be running especially high.
March 9, 2016 Solar Eclipse
The sheer number of planets transiting through Pisces at the time of the eclipse illuminates the sign of Pisces and the planet Neptune. At the time of the eclipse: the South Node, Chiron, Sun, Moon, Neptune and Mercury are all in Pisces. The Piscean theme is for high spiritual insights, prophetic dreams and heightened intuition. It is also a theme for confusion, delusion and escapism. Now, more than ever we have a choice. Do we let ourselves sink into an abyss or do we follow our spiritual higher self into a fuller more healthful life?
With the Sun and Moon in Pisces conjunct the asteroid Chiron, another major eclipse theme is health and healing. The eclipse is opposed to the North Node and Jupiter in Virgo. Virgo is a sign that also has connections to healing energy. New health conditions could appear or new healing modalities for existing conditions could be revealed.
With the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square still in force, transformation is certainly the order of the day. Old routines and structures have been falling away for quite some time. The solar eclipse will give a push to those things that are crumbling. Once structures have crumbled the rebuilding and healing can begin.
Be wary of fear and pessimism during this time of high planetary energy. Saturn square Neptune can lead to melancholy and a defeatist attitude due to the frustration and limitations of Saturn. Jupiter also squares Saturn, which can manifest as a “push me” “pull me” dynamic or one step forward and two back. This is not the time to give up on your goals. Wait to evaluate where you are in relation to those goals when the energy is more grounded and more clarity prevails. This aspect is also a testing ground that asks: “How much do you want your stated goals?” “What are you willing to do to achieve them?”
Surprisingly, there are some good Pluto aspects. The solar eclipse is sextile Pluto and Jupiter is trine Pluto. Trines and sextiles are easy energy that requires a little push from you. If you use the Jupiter/Saturn square to reevaluate your goals and set your will to achieve them, this could be a very helpful aspect.

March 23, 2016 Lunar Eclipse
The March 23 Lunar Eclipse shifts the focus from Pisces to the Libra/Aries axis. Issues around relationships, “your stuff versus my stuff” and “how can I forge ahead without leaving you behind” are all part of the dynamics of this lunar eclipse. It’s exciting to finally have some energizing, active energy showing up after the long, slow winter and the effects of the Saturn/Neptune square. This is an excellent time to start new projects, clear up any lingering relationship issues and to simply charge ahead in living your life. Mars turns retrograde on April 17 so try to put any new plans in place before that time.
To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.  This Valentine’s Day month opens with a lovely Venus/Neptune sextile in the signs of Capricorn (Venus) and Pisces (Neptune). This aspect is all about beauty, romance and a sense of the poetic and mystical. Because Venus is in the business sign of Capricorn we could even see a brief softening around the hard edges of business. Something could even show up in the news about big business showing some compassion and caring beyond their concern with the bottom dollar.
The mood shifts considerably on February 3rd when Mars sextiles Pluto at 16 degrees of Scorpio/Capricorn. This is certainly a good time to get busy and to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. You will be in the mood to forge ahead without letting anything stand in your way.
Watch the news on February 5-6 when the Sun squares Mars, Venus conjuncts Pluto and the Sun sextiles Uranus. This can be a very volatile time, both in your personal life and on the world front. Power struggles, social unrest, brawn over brain are just some of the possible manifestations of this energy. With Uranus in the picture there could be sudden, unpredictable happenings and results.
Reason returns somewhat on February 7. Mars squares the Sun, but also sextiles Venus, and Mercury trines Jupiter. Truth begins to emerge, and people and nations are in more of a mood to compromise and to work out solutions. In your personal life this could bring breakthroughs. For maximum benefit from this transit focus on the big picture, not the minute daily concerns.
On February 8, the New Moon at 19 degrees of Aquarius squares Mars in Scorpio and is inconjunct Uranus. It also activates the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square. The brief lull in aggressive activity is over and aggressive actions are again in focus until the next new Moon. Though you can’t do anything about the events in the larger world, you can focus on keeping your actions peaceful and cooperative during this rather trying time.
February 8 starts the Lunar Chinese New Year in the year of the fire monkey.
The month of January left many of us feeling lethargic, burnt out, tired and out of sorts. The good news is that Mars ramps up your activity level this month. Mars can wake us from our lethargy and help us pursue our goals.
Finally on February 10-15, easier energy enters the picture when Venus, and then Mars, trines Jupiter. The mood lightens considerably, fun returns to life and we are better able to move things along in a positive way. Aries and Scorpio may especially feel a release of some of the tension, but all of the fixed signs (Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius and Taurus) will feel this shift. Those signs will be able to make headway and push things full speed ahead before Mars turns retrograde on April 17.
On February 13 Mercury enters Aquarius, followed by Venus on February 16. This is a fitting placement for Valentine’s Day. It is not so much about romantic love, but love on a larger, grander scale. It is about caring for your neighbor whether that neighbor is next door or clear across the globe. It is truly about universal love and positive communication.
Finally, the Sun moves into Pisces on February 18 where it will be joined by the New Moon on March 8-9 to form a solar total eclipse.

The Month of January 2016 begins with Uranus and Pluto in their last square to each other for the foreseeable future. This energy will be the strongest until approximately the middle of June 2016, though it does become weaker as time goes on. We have all felt this energy for such a long time (since 2008) that I wouldn’t be too alarmed about it. Most of us have already experienced deep changes, so the planets of change (Uranus) and transformation (Pluto) will have a diminished effect. If you are still dragging your feet about making a much-needed change, this square may be the catalyst that moves you forward.
January will be a month of retrogrades. I rather like the synchronicity of a period of review after celebrating the New Year. It’s as if the planets are saying,
Okay, wait a minute before you blindly make resolutions you don’t intend to keep. Take a minute to decide what is really important to you and then make only those resolutions that you plan to keep. I’ll help you in that by slowing down and giving you plenty of time to think things over.
Mercury turns retrograde on January 5 at 1 degree Aquarius and moves back into Capricorn on January 9. It ends retrograde motion on January 25 when it is stationary direct at 14 degrees Capricorn. This is a good time to step back and review plans. Keep a notebook of your ideas during this time. Talk to others and record their comments, etc. Once Mercury goes direct, you will have a rich collection of ideas to put into place as you move forward.
Jupiter turns retrograde on January 8 at 23 degrees Virgo. It will move backward until May 9, 2016, when it turns stationery direct at 13 degrees Virgo. If you have planets near 20 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces and Gemini), pay special attention to the events of February 16 to February 24, 2016. During those dates, Jupiter will be at 20 degrees Virgo and may re-trigger the events and energy of the September 13, 2015, solar eclipse. Jupiter retrograde in Virgo may be saying:
Hey you, I want to bring you lots of blessings and abundance, but first you need to spend some time sorting things out. What do you really want? What are you willing to work hard for? What in your life is chaotic and unorganized? You really need to take this time while I’m retrograde to put things in order. It’s hard to manifest your good when you have a cluttered mind and a cluttered life. I’m slowing down to give you more time to categorize your priorities. Good luck.
Neptune and Saturn continue their square with Neptune at 7 degrees Pisces and Saturn at 11 degrees Sagittarius. I discuss this square in my newsletter at http://astrology-classes.com/newsletters/december-2015-astrology-transits-newsletter.html. I need to clarify a little. That article mainly detailed some of the negative effects of this square. The very positive effect of this aspect is that the planets are urging us to tune into our spirituality and compassion (Neptune and Pisces) and to clarify our limiting belief systems (Saturn in Sagittarius).
You can see this square playing out in a very real and visible way when you look at the United States political scene. There is a very real (Saturn) feeling of ill will towards certain religions and belief systems (Sagittarius). At the same time, there is also a strong feeling of compassion (Neptune in Pisces) toward refugees and those of religions unlike our own. I urge all of my readers to help manifest the positive side of this very real struggle. The challenges of the Neptune/Saturn year 2016 square can be used to take your spiritual practice to a whole new level if you are aware.
Be ready to “hit the ground running” after January 24 when Mercury turns direct and the year 2016 really gets underway. Get out there and “make those glorious mistakes” referred to in the quote by Neil Gaiman.

The nodes of the moon have been on the Aries/Libra karmic axis for the last year and one-half, which has brought many lessons and situations regarding close relationships of all kinds. Money matters and social interaction were also in focus. Many people have met their soul mates during this time, while others have learned hard, but important, lessons around relationships. (Of course, a soul mate relationship can also bring an abundance of learning opportunities.) This energy was especially strong during the last lunar and solar eclipses in September.
The Karmic axis of the North and South Nodes has now moved into Virgo (North Node) and Pisces (South Node) at 28 degrees of those signs. Remember, the Nodes move counterclockwise through the chart and are always in opposition to one another. This can create a push me/pull me situation where we vacillate between two choices or courses of action. However, the positive outcome is that the Nodes in Virgo/Pisces until early May 2017 create opportunities to make your dreams (Pisces) and “what ifs” into reality (Virgo). If you have the North Node in Virgo in your natal chart you will be having a nodal return during the next 18 months. It is an opportune time to review and renew your objectives around service, work, health and spiritual objectives.
The South Node in Pisces gives you imagination, intuition, creativity and the ability to dream big dreams and to sense opportunities. Negatively, it can bring confusion, delusion and illusion. The North Node in Virgo gives you high analytical, organizational and reality checking abilities. Negatively, it can bring the tendency to nitpick and worry about small details and, most importantly, it can prevent you from seeing the big picture.
When you balance the energy of the two Nodes it is clear that you now have an 18-month window of opportunity in which you can see the big picture and can dream big (North Node in Pisces), while maintaining your ability to analyze and reality check your ideas. The energy could be summed up as “dream big while keeping your feet on the ground.” It will also be a good time to fix, stabilize and heal relationships, situations and conditions.
Look to the houses in your birth chart holding the transiting Nodes to understand where the energy is the strongest. Those of you with planets between 25 and 29 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces and Gemini) will be especially affected. Because Chiron and Neptune are both transiting Pisces there is abundant potential for great healing and spiritual insights. If you have a lingering health problem it could be a good time to look for the right healing modality. Alternative healing methods in conjunction with allopathic medicine are especially favored. However, be wary of the tendency to escape unpleasant truths by disappearing into sleep, drugs or fantasy.
On November 1, Mercury enters Scorpio where it stays until November 20. Our thinking processes now become more focused and intense. Then on November 11 when the new moon is in Scorpio our emotions follow suit.
On November 6 the Sun sextiles Pluto at 13 degrees Scorpio/Capricorn and Mercury trines Neptune at 7 degrees of Scorpio/Pisces, releasing deep wells of intense, inner energy. Especially favored is compassionate conversations geared toward healing deep rifts and separations. If you feel estranged from someone important in your life, this could be a good time to try to bridge the gap.
The new Moon on November 11 is at 19 degrees Scorpio, while the Sun sextiles Jupiter at 18 degrees Scorpio/Virgo. These aspects bring healing, wholeness and prosperity into your life. This is an excellent time to set your intentions for the 18-month Nodal transit of Virgo/Pisces.
Venus enters Libra on November 8 followed by Mars on November 12 is a good time to negotiate agreements and to settle any ongoing disputes. November 13 when Venus is sextile Saturn and Mercury is sextile Jupiter is an especially good day for negotiating sticky issues. Until the 18th of November this energy can also be very helpful in working out relationship differences.
Be sure to finish your negotiations before November 20 when Venus squares Pluto at 13 degrees of Libra/Capricorn. The super charged emotional intensity of the Venus/Pluto square is not conducive to settling relationship issues. Be careful with regard to money and investment matters at this time also.
Activities concerning work and career are favored on November 22 when Mars sextiles Saturn at 6 degrees Libra/Sagittarius.
You may find yourself feeling like “Catty Cathy” on November 24 at the Full Moon in Gemini. Ideas will be overflowing and you may want to be active and on the move.
To summarize, the shift of the Nodal axis brings in another astrological cycle. Because the nodes are fairly slow moving, many other cycles will play out during the Nodes’ 18-month transit of Virgo/Pisces. The North Node is a karmic indicator of your life purpose. Any contact of the North Node with a planet or important point in your chart is worthy of your close attention. The overlying theme of this nodal cycle can be summed up in this quote from Jonas Salk, who discovered the polio vaccine:
