LEO LUNAR ECLIPSE FEBRUARY 10, 2017

First, a little cosmic zing from the universe:

The Sabian symbol for the eclipse Moon at 22 degrees Leo is:  “A bareback rider in a circus displays her dangerous skill.”

The Sabian symbol for the Sun in Aquarius is:  A big bear sitting down and waving all its paws.

I interpret this to mean lots of risk taking and pushing the envelope in an assertive way with a large dose of showmanship and applause-seeking in the mix.  Risk taking carries a certain amount of fear with it.  But when all is said and done and the air clears, the thing we fear (the bear) may not be such a threat after all.

The chart to the left is the lunar eclipse chart for February 10, 2017 at 7:32:48 pm in New York City, NY.

The February 10 lunar eclipse features an unusual chart configuration called a “mystic rectangle” (clearly shown by the solid blue lines and the dotted blue lines).  A mystic rectangle occurs when four or more planets are connected by oppositions, sextiles and trines in such a way that they form a rectangular shape.  Because there is a balance of challenging and easy energy a mystic rectangle is considered to be a helpful aspect that allows us to use our gifts in a beneficial way.

You can see that the Leo Moon, Aries Uranus, Aquarius Sun and Libra Jupiter form the mystic rectangle.  This is a strong combination of air and fire energies making this is a very active eclipse.  It prompts us to get moving and to make something happen.  However, there is a danger of over optimism (Jupiter), chaos (Uranus) and over stimulation inherent in this eclipse configuration.  Saturn does mitigate that danger somewhat.

Note also the squares (red lines with the square symbol) between Jupiter in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn. This is an ongoing signature that we have been feeling for quite some time.  Issues around control and issues of “us versus them” will be part of the energy thrust during the eclipse season.  That scenario is intensified by Jupiter in Libra. The Moon/Sun opposition (and, of course, of the North and South Nodes) also bring in a certain relationship dynamic.  Relationship shifts and realignment are part of this eclipse energy.

Finally, notice the grand trine (blue lines with a triangle symbol) connecting the Moon in Leo, Uranus in Aries, and Saturn in Sagittarius.  The key to understanding planetary aspects is to view the planets as having a dialog with each other.  The planets in this fiery trine all want action.

  • Moon in Leo wants to lead and it wants to be noticed and applauded. This means that you should not be afraid to let others see how magnificent you are!
  • Uranus in Aries wants to be free and to boldly move forward. It enjoys shaking things up and even shocking others.  This means that you can easily take chances and try new things.  You will not be as concerned with other’s opinion about the changes you wish to make.
  • Saturn in Sagittarius wants action, but it also wants to apply limitations and it doesn’t like the idea of marching off unprepared without good plans in place. This is a protective aspect that urges you to make careful plans before you embark on your exciting new venture(s).

Uranus trine Saturn facilitates making bold changes (Uranus) that will be made in a responsible, careful manner (Saturn).  Jupiter sextile Saturn brings optimism (Jupiter) tempered by a certain amount of caution.

An eclipse is not necessarily felt the strongest at the time of the eclipse.  You could notice its energy any time between now and September 17, 2017.  In fact, you may feel it most around that date.

Those of you with your Sun, Moon, ascendant or planets near 22 degrees of Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio or Taurus will feel this eclipse the most.

So is it generally a good time to take some risks?

Yes, it is a good time to take risks. The energy is actually pushing you forward (Uranus) at this time towards something bigger and better (Jupiter). That is part of why we see such a spirit of revolution in the news. The status quo no longer works. You will see a lot of groundbreaking inventions and scientific breakthroughs during 2017. These are all activated by this eclipse. Lunar eclipses indicate a point of completion and fruition. The old things that you were building towards must now be completed and relinquished. At the solar eclipse on February 26 it is time to put any new plans into place in a big way. Solar eclipses always denote a building energy or a fresh start. However, it is wise to remember that Saturn is part of the eclipse dynamics. I strongly caution you to be prudent and make careful plans (Saturn) as the active, revolutionary nature of the eclipse could entice you to be foolhardy in your attempt to make changes. The time between the February 10 lunar eclipse and the February 26 solar eclipse is a time to tune into your self, to access your psychic knowingness and to pay attention to your dreams. There are several planets in Pisces at this time that will facilitate this process.
