The first eclipse of 2018 is a blue Moon that is also a super moon and a total lunar eclipse. This is a phenomena that last occurred 150 years ago.This full moon lunar eclipse is at 12 degrees Leo in opposition to the Sun at 12 degrees Aquarius. The energy of this eclipse is focused on individuation (Leo) versus pleasing and acquiescing to the group (Aquarius). Remember, the group can be one or two others or a city, state, country or world.Like the Full Moon that we experienced earlier this month, this full moon eclipse is opposite Venus.
- The Moon represents our needs, our emotions and our survival instincts.
- Venus represents our love nature, how we give and receive love and our money and resources.
The Moon and Venus in opposition set up a tug of war between our needs and the needs of others that we are in relationship with.
The Leo Moon also has to do with how we express ourselves, how we allow our creative urge and how we let ourselves play (or not).
Because the eclipse is quincunx Neptune (150 degrees apart) you could feel a temporary loss of self and/or a deep well of emotion that doesn’t make rational sense. The best bet is to let the feelings come without judgment. We are being cleansed and awakened because we all have a lot of important work to do in 2018. Humanity needs us, the planet needs us and the clearer and more focused we are the more we can help.
Because the Moon rules the sign of Cancer, all full Moons speak to women, mothering, emotions and home.
The 2018 women’s march is scheduled for January 20, 2018, ten days before this eclipse. Because there is a heightened awareness of women’s issues, this total lunar eclipse could bring even more stories in the news about women’s issues, sexual harassment issues and a debate on women’s place in the home, the workplace and politics.
In addition, the moon in this total lunar eclipse is conjunct Ceres the dwarf planet that rules fertility, the uterus and the stomach. Negatively, she is associated with feelings of abandonment or unworthiness. The symbol for Ceres is shown in the chart below right next to the Moon. It looks like a backwards question mark with a line drawn the base.
Moon conjunct Ceres triggers issues around women’s sexuality and reproduction rights. This harbinger of the 2018 energy is setting the stage for more discussion around those issues.
Watch for debates around single parenthood, transgender and gay parenthood. This eclipse will usher in a time of heated debate all through 2018 around who has control of our bodies, our children and our sexuality.
This eclipse will be felt the most by those who have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars at approximately 7 to 17 degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius).

I have a Fixed T-square (Focus point-NN/Neptune in Scorpio in my 2nd house), Uranus in Leo (11th house), Venus in Aquarius(4th house). Release in Taurus (8th) house. These are aslo the co-ordinates of the full moon on Wednesday. I can feel that this a powerful aspect and transit. Looking for suggestions how to effectively utilize this energy. I wasn’t able to reconstruct your chart because I didn’t have your ascendant sign and degree. I questioned whether Venus was in the 4th or 5th house. In the meantime, the greatest emphasis is on the opposition of Uranus and Venus. Uranus in the 11th immediately tells me that you have something unusual and special to give to groups and friends and that you tend to gravitate toward unusual, intelligent and inventive types of friends and groups. Because Uranus is opposing Venus in your fourth house of family and tradition, you are drawn towards more traditional family values and opinions. It seems that there is always a conflict between the need to “fly your freak flag” (Uranus), as one famous astrologer puts it, and to adhere to more traditional concepts and values. This eclipse is shouting at you that you can be true to both. However, to reconcile the two opposing concepts, you MUST make choices that foster your UNIQUE INDIVIDUALITY (Leo). I would suggest that you could channel the dramatic Leo Uranus and Venus Aquarius into expressing your unique and special creativity.
Your North Node in Scorpio indicates that it is your spiritual purpose this lifetime to dig deeply into everything, particularly around deep spiritual practices (Neptune in Scorpio) and how they affect your life values and income. Neptune here suggests a vocation or learning toward counseling careers. Art or music therapy would be one possibility.
