March 2015 Astrology Newsletter

It was one of those March days when the Sun shines hot and the wind blows cold; when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. — Charles Dickens
The month of March is a lot like the weather.  It begins on an exciting and positive note and ends somewhat quietly with lots of stormy weather in between.  March opens with Mercury in Aquarius opposing Jupiter in Leo and trine Uranus and Venus in Aries.  There is an abundance of optimism (Jupiter) in this aspect, as well as a hearty does of innovation, and forward thinking (Uranus) ideas (Mercury). This is a “let me soar” pattern.  It works best if you banish the censor from your thoughts.  You know the thoughts that say “what makes you think you could do that?” Use the plentiful supply of creative ideas to make a game plan of what it will take to accomplish your goals.  Be sure to leave plenty of room for “a ha” moments and workable thoughts that come from out of the blue.  The Mercury/Jupiter opposition could bring results that will surprise you.

During the month of March, Venus trines Jupiter, then opposes Uranus and finally squares Pluto.  This is truly a breakthrough aspect.  I love that the easy energy of the trine is followed by the challenging opposition and square.  That is a clear signal from the universe that to reap the many rewards of this transit you must do the work (opposition – challenges from others, and square – personal challenges that you need to overcome to collect the prize).  This is a time to be bold, to take calculated risks and to make yourself visible to those who can help you. A hidden blessing of this transit is that it will make it easier for you to let go of unproductive, detrimental things and problematic people that you have been holding on to. Jupiter loves to fill an empty space with his blessings.  You will have ample time to take advantage of this energy because Jupiter will be flirting with Uranus until the end of July.

The full moon in Virgo on the 5th is trine Pluto, and the Sun is sextile Pluto on that day.  This planetary lineup is custom made to correct and fine tune your plans.  Because full moon energy is always about your emotions, be sure to add a healthy dose of emotion to your hopes, wishes, dreams and plans.  Emotion plus hard work and belief is the magic elixir to help you accomplish your fondest desires.

The energy turns problematic and challenging the week of March 9th through the 14th (and continues to a lesser degree throughout April) when Mars trines Jupiter, conjuncts Uranus and squares Pluto.  The vibes bring a lot of “in your face energy.”  Someone around you (let’s hope it’s not you) may be spoiling for a fight.  Be aware of high voltage, confrontational energy on March 15 when the Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus and Mars in Aries.  Be especially careful if you have cardinal planets (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) near 15 degrees; be extra careful at work as you could get caught up in office wars and be careful while driving as you could be more accident prone.  On the plus side, you will be feeling more assertive, which is good energy for moving forward with your plans.  The best way to handle this challenging energy is to stay mindful as you go about your daily business.

On March 14 Saturn turns retrograde at 4 degrees Sagittarius.  You will be most affected by retrograde Saturn if your birthday is between November 18 to 28, February 15 to 25, May 17 to 27 or August 18 to 29; or if you have planets or angles in your birth chart at 29 degrees Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius or at zero to 6 degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.  Look to the houses where these planets are located to determine the life area where you will need to focus on responsibility and restructuring.  Saturn will travel retrograde in Sagittarius until June 15, 2015, when it will re-enter Scorpio and continue its retrograde motion until August 3, when it resumes direct motion at 28 degrees Scorpio.

Saturn forms a challenging square to Neptune during its retrograde motion.  Be careful that you do not become overly worried, critical and pessimistic during this time (Saturn in Scorpio).  Instead, focus more on how you can be more compassionate and helpful to others (Neptune in Pisces).  A Saturn/Neptune square can bring miscommunication, lack of clarity and a general feeling of mental fogginess.  Take care of your health, get plenty of sleep and rest, eat more fruits and vegetables and fewer heavy foods.

On the 16th we have the 7th and final exact square between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.  This energy has been extremely disruptive during the last seven to eight years; and from March until the end of April the intensity again reaches a peak.  Watch for volatility in your life and on the world scene.  Mother Earth may be more prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and (with Mars in the picture) we could be hearing about fires and explosions of monumental proportions.  After the end of April this disruptive energy begins to lessen.  We will be in a period of change and transformation for many years, but because the intensity is weaker, the rebuilding process can be pursued in earnest.  Astrology promises that, if you make the needed changes, you will find yourself in a much better place by the end of the year and, in particular, the coming years.

We have a total solar eclipse on March 20, 2015, when the super new moon is at 29 degrees Pisces.  The sign of Pisces and 29 degrees both denote a time of finishing up and the end of a cycle.  You are likely to be strongly affected by this Solar Eclipse if your birthday is March 18 to 22; June 18 to 22; September 20-24; or December 20 to 23; or if you have planets or angles in your birth chart of 28 to 29 degrees Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius, or zero-one degrees Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.  The house where the eclipse falls or aspects your planets or angles is where you will be completing something in your life.

The solar eclipse is followed 12 hours later by the spring equinox when the Sun enters zero degree Aries.  The spring equinox is like an astrological new year when one cycle ends and another begins.  This is especially true this year with the eclipse falling at 29 degrees Pisces, closely followed by the equinox.

On a lighter note remember: “Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.” —  Doug Larson
