Astrology Transits May 2018 – Major Change

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. — Alan Watts

We are certainly feeling the profound energy shifts that are happening now. The sheer intensity of these shifts is making many of us feel untethered and like the rug is being pulled out from under us. However, these big changes are all part of the natural order of the universe and the cosmos. We can look at the changes in fear and trepidation or with excitement and anticipation. Each of us must decide from day-to-day how we will react to what is going on around us.

Major shifts come when the old energy has become depleted. For instance, Chiron has been in Pisces since February 2011. Pisces is the sign of sacrifice, spiritual longings and merging with All-That-Is. Chiron points us toward our deepest wound, but also the healing that is all around us if we open our eyes to the possibilities.

Chiron’s movement through Pisces was a five-year journey in understanding your deep spiritual wounding. It asked you to become clear about how you were wounded on a deep spiritual level and how you could heal those wounds. It was not so much a time of action as it was a time of understanding and feeling that wounding.

That all changed on April 17 when Chiron moved out of Pisces into Aries. Chiron will stay (off and on because of going retrograde) in the action-oriented sign of Aries until the year 2026. Aries is the sign of identity and action. It answers to the keyword of “I Am.” Chiron in Aries is about healing the wounded ego. It asks you to consider

  • Your sense of self – Who am I on a primal level when no one else is around and no one else is influencing me?
  • Am I staying true to myself through self-knowledge and action?
  • Where are the dark places in my soul and psyche? How can I heal those dark places to heal my wounded ego?
  • What part of me have I not fully accepted and embraced?
  • How can I express my unexpressed self; the part of me that is so hidden and private that it languishes in the dark from lack of attention?
  • What do I feel ashamed of? Am I ready to let go of that shame?
  • How can I bring my esoteric teachings and understandings down to earth through action?
  • How to understand and accept that I am worthy of what I want and then going after what I want.

Aries brings confidence and courage to help you understand and express those wounded, unexpressed parts of yourself. Chiron in Aries will help you bring those wounded parts of yourself out into the open. It will help you replace fear and apprehension with acceptance and healing, perception and understanding. You must do your part by courageously taking action.

May 5-9:

Sun sextile Neptune at 14 degrees Taurus/Pisces

Venus square Neptune at 14-15 Gemini/Pisces

Sun opposing Jupiter 20 degrees Taurus/Scorpio Mercury square Pluto at 20 degrees Aries/Capricorn

There is a lot of planetary energy out there during this time period. The Neptunian part of the energy brings a certain sense of idealism, spirituality and a blending of the material and cosmic energies. If you are an artist, musician, dancer or work and/or play in any kind of creative endeavor this time period is a prime time to tune into your inner muse. News stories may revolve around oil, water and delusion with lots of confusion and conflicting views thrown in.

The Mercury square Pluto and Sun opposite Jupiter part of the energy allows you to access and speak your deeper truths. Of course, the flip side is that less scrupulous people may use this energy to expound untruths, propaganda or manipulative actions.

May 15 Uranus enters Taurus and Mars enters Aquarius in square aspect to Uranus. This is a time filled with conflicts, both personal and global, with aggressive actions and words coming from all sides. The new Moon in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn only adds fuel to the fire. Look for expressions of rebellion and civil protests of all kinds on the political front. Drive carefully and avoid confrontations.  This challenging energy will remain in place until the end of May when Mars moves out of aspect to Uranus.

See the chart for May 15, 2018, New York City, NY below.

Uranus in Taurus Beginning May 15, 2018. Uranus will stay in Taurus until July 2025 (though it will retrograde back into Aries in November 2018). Uranus stays in a sign for seven years; it takes it 84 years to go around the Zodiac. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was from 1934 until 1942. Similar to that time period, Uranus in Taurus from 2018 until 2025 will be concerned with financial and money matters, agriculture and all things related to value, survival and security.

Uranus is the planet of freedom, liberation, revolution and sudden shocks. It rules electricity, lightning, computers, innovation and science. Its effects can never be completely foretold as it is the wild card of the Zodiac. What we can be sure of with Uranus is that it will shake things up, remove what is no longer needed and productive, and push you (and the world) towards new, and sometimes startling, paths.

Taurus, in contrast represents what is tangible, stable, concrete and touchable. Taurus desires security and stability above all else and loathes sudden change.

Uranus in Taurus creates an uneasy alliance where we may see wild swings between the need to hold onto the status quo (Taurus) and the need to bring much needed change (Uranus).

Matters around security, finances, climate change, agricultural practices and protection of Mother Earth will be front and center during the next seven years (Taurus). Similarly, we will see sudden scientific breakthroughs, erratic weather patterns, sudden changes around money and finances and startling advances in technology and space travel (Uranus).

On a more personal level: those with important planets and positions at the end of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) and beginning of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) may see some major life changes during the next couple of years.  If your planets are later in the fixed signs, the changes will happen a few years later.

Sagittarius Full Moon, May 29.  The month ends on a note of optimism and a sense that anything is possible.  Jupiter, Neptune and Venus form a lovely grand water trine blurring the hard edges and letting us relax into the good feelings.

Several people have expressed a sense of fear and uneasiness about the coming astrological changes and what is in store for them and the world at large. I too have felt some of this angst. However, upon spending more time thinking about it, I have decided that it is much worse to not change. Clinging to outdated energy and ways of being stifles all growth and all sense of excitement. So I have decided to remind myself that change is a necessary part of my life journey whenever I start to feel anxiety about what is going on in the world.

I would love to hear how you are coping with change. Are you fearful? Or, are you excited and looking forward to new ways of being?
