As we enter another “eclipse season” we are once again asked to look at where we need to make changes in our life. Because the solar and lunar eclipses involve the “lights” they have a big impact on our life. The upcoming eclipses are:
Partial Solar Eclipse July 12, 2018, at 20:41 degrees Cancer
Total Lunar Eclipse July 27, 2018, at 4:44 degrees Aquarius/Leo
Partial Solar Eclipse August 11, 2018 at 18:41 degrees Leo
June 29 – Mercury enters Leo until September 5. While transiting Leo, Mercury turns retrograde on July 25.
June 30 – Mercury square Uranus at 1.58 Leo/Taurus. Watch for set opinions and ideas and sudden ideological skirmishes. All matters that involve communication should be handled carefully. Expect the unexpected! With both planets in fixed signs there is a strong undercurrent of stubbornness and fixed opinions to be dealt with. Tread carefully.
July 5-July 8 – Sun trine Jupiter at 13 Cancer/Scorpio. Enjoy this lovely, optimistic trine aspect. Holiday fun and family gatherings should go smoothly. Because Mars opposes Mercury, you do need to be extra careful driving when out and about.
July 8 – Sun trine Neptune at 16 degrees Cancer/Pisces. This time period is like a cool, green oasis in the midst of a hot, chaotic, challenging terrain. It fosters a feeling of compassion, spirituality and harmony when sharing your views of the world with others. Use this time to meditate, pray and commune with those in your spiritual family.
July 9 – Mercury square Jupiter at 13 degrees Leo/Scorpio. The energy takes a turn on the 9th when communication around your beliefs becomes problematic. Travel could also be problematic, so leave plenty of time for delays and double check your itinerary.
July 10 – Venus enters Virgo. Jupiter turns direct at 13.20 Scorpio. Jupiter resuming direct motion is good for business endeavors of all kinds. If you have had a project that you just couldn’t move forward, Jupiter direct should help move things along.
July 12-13 – Solar Eclipse at 20:41 Cancer opposing Pluto at 19.58 Capricorn. The solar eclipse occurs at a new Moon when the Moon is conjunct the Sun (see the eclipse chart below). Since the Moon relates to our emotional life and the Sun relates to our outer, visible life, this conjunction is about integrating the Moon’s emotional needs with how you live your everyday life.
Sun opposing Pluto at 19-20 degrees Cancer/Capricorn. Because the eclipse opposes Pluto, there is a considerable amount of intense challenge connected to this eclipse. Sun in opposition to Pluto is a challenging energy that unleashes tension and power struggles. Be careful about engaging in such tussles, especially with regard to work or family issues. Because Pluto rules the masses and political machinations, such power struggles can manifest on a global scale.
Venus trine Uranus at 1 to 2 degrees of Virgo/Taurus. The Venus trine Uranus helps to mitigate the Sun opposition Pluto energy, though with Uranus you can always expect the unexpected.
This eclipse will be especially important for those with planets or the angles near 20 degrees of Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries.
July 20-22 – Mars conjunct South Node at 5 degrees Aquarius. Venus sextile Jupiter at 12 degrees of Virgo/Scorpio. Retrograde Mars conjunct the South Node can bring people back into your life and/or reactivate conditions from an earlier time.
July 26 – Mercury turns retrograde at 23:26 Leo.
July 27 – Total Lunar Eclipse at 04:44 Aquarius/Leo. This total lunar eclipse packs a wallop in more ways than one. In a total eclipse, the Sun and Moon are very close in orb to the Nodes, which brings a strong fated quality to the event. In addition, the Moon is conjunct Mars; the Sun is opposing Mars; and Mars is square Uranus. Moon/Sun/Mars/Uranus means that:
- Everyone will be feeling emotionally over stimulated (Moon).
- There is a feeling that our ego (Sun/Mars) is being threatened and we may feel a strong need to protect our emotional and physical territory.
- Probability of erratic, chaotic or unexpected events (Uranus/Mars) is high. Be extra, extra careful on the road (accidents and road rage) or when handling dangerous objects or substances.
- Explosions, fires and natural disasters are likely (volcanoes, earthquakes, etc. (Mars and Uranus).
- Stay away from family or relationship disputes and hot spots until after the August 11 eclipse and the end of the eclipse season (end of August).
This eclipse will be felt most strongly by those with planets or angles near 4 degrees Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius or Taurus.
If you keep your wits about you, Mars retrograde in Aquarius is superb for detaching from the craziness all around you so you can objectively reinvent those things or attitudes that need to be tweaked.
On a positive note, Venus in opposition to retrograde Neptune is good for tuning into your spiritual self. Saturn square Chiron helps calm the energy and can offer big healing rewards to those who are able to use the energy of the two eclipses to bring about any much-needed transformation.

I have always been fascinated by eclipses and how they affect our lives. I would love to hear your stories about your past experiences with eclipses, or with the eclipses that are happening now. Remember, eclipses have an influence over several months, not just the day or month in which they occur. They act somewhat as a wildcard so it is hard to tell exactly how they will manifest, though you can usually tell in what area of your life you will see change happening.
This is very interesting. I’m also intrigued by the fact5 that the eclipse will be happening on my birthday, July 13th.
