Void of Course Moon

Electional astrology is the process of finding the best time to hold an event such as a wedding, start a new business, go on an important interview, buy or sell real estate, have surgery, go on a trip, etc. One of the most important elements of a successful electional astrology reading is to make sure that the event does not start on a void of course moon.

Because the moon moves very quickly through the zodiac and only spends approximately 2 ½ days in each sign of the zodiac, it is an excellent tool for timing events. In fact, when I do a birth chart rectification for someone who does not know their time of birth, I always use the transits of the moon as a factor to determine the exact timing of a life event.

A void of course moon occurs when the moon in its current sign has made its last major aspect to any of the planets before it moves to the next sign. The moon still has “moon energy” but because it is not contacting any other planet the energy has nowhere to go. The energy simply becomes “void” or not easily felt. Electional astrologers frequently use the term “nothing will come of it” when they encounter a void of term moon while doing an astrological election reading for a client. If “nothing will come of it,” it is easy to see why you would not want to see a void of course moon at the start of an important life event.

However, a void of course moon is an excellent time to meditate, do contemplative yoga, clean out clutter, organize and to just enjoy life. It can often be a very good time to finish up jobs that are already started. Phones typically will not ring very much during a void of course so it is easier to finish a task uninterrupted by distractions.

As stated above, a void of course moon occurs when the moon in its current sign has made its last major aspect to any of the planets before it moves to the next sign. It remains void of course until it moves into the next sign. The void of course can last anywhere from a few minutes to more than two days. The following charts show the void of course moon for several months in 2010 and 2011. An example of the September 2010 chart is as follows:

At one minute past midnight Eastern Standard Time on September 3, 2010, the moon was at 28 degrees, 23 minutes Gemini. It was making several aspects, including a square to Uranus at 29 degrees, 20 minutes Pisces (which was the last possible aspect it could make in that sign). It was not void of course at that time.

However, by 1:41 AM the moon had moved to to 29 degrees, 20 minutes of Gemini. It was now void of course because it was past the last aspect (the square to Uranus at 29 degrees 20 minutes Pisces) and it had not yet entered the new sign of Cancer.

Note on the September 2010 void of course moon table that the moon was no longer void of course at 2:52 AM because it had now entered a new sign.

.Hopefully, these void of course moon tables will be helpful to you to use as the first step in determining the best time to perform or not perform an action. If you would like a full electional reading, complete the form under “Contact Me” at the top of this web page and I will contact you to set up a full astrology reading to find the best time to schedule your important event.

All of the times in the following charts are shown for the Eastern Time Zone. You will need to adjust the times for your own time zone.

Also be aware that the time will change with Daylight Savings Time. For instance, the times shown from September 2010 through November 7, 2010 are given in Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Eastern Standard Time begins on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:00 AM. Eastern Daylight Savings Time then returns on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 AM.

What is Evolutionary Astrology?

Many astrologers only read the natal chart in a rather prescribed way, which gives little guidance to the future and how to navigate life’s rocky spots. Because of my past training at the School of Metaphysics, I knew that there was a better way to approach life.  A way that puts you in charge of your own life.  The best tool to find that way is through the study and use of evolutionary astrology.

Evolutionary astrology focuses on your soul’s need for learning and growing in this lifetime. When reading your astrology chart I will look at how the past affects your present life circumstances, the lessons you have learned in the past and the lessons you are now learning. Evolutionary Astrology is especially suited to looking at what is holding you back from living the fullest and happiest life possible in the here and now.

When I do your evolutionary astrology reading, I will look at your karmic Nodes of the Moon. The South Node shows your past and your habitual ways of dealing with life. The North Node shows your purpose in this life and how you are to grow and evolve to be your very best self.

Your evolutionary astrology reading will not only tell you the habitual, possibly negative, habit patterns of your South Node, but it will also tell you about the wonderful, helpful talents that you have inherited from your past through the South Node to help you in this lifetime.  The trick is to use the good habits, but to not become emeshed in the habitual ways of reacting that  are not beneficial to you.

Saturn and Pluto also hold very valuable clues to your evolutionary path and your direction in life.  When I look at your chart using evolutionary astrology, the chart will just open up and I will be able to see dimensions of your life shine forth that you were previously unaware of.  Evolutionary astrology is truly a wonderful tool to use in charting your best possible life!

Aspen Astrology Parties

You will be amazed at the amount of fun you and your guests can have at an astrology party!  I will do mini-readings for each of your guests.  These party readings will usually be 10-20 minutes in length for each guest, depending on the number of guests and your budget.

Parties can be set up two ways.

  • Each guest pays for their own mini reading.  This structure is good for girl’s night out parties, small showers, and “just because” parties such as an informal potluck evening or afternoon party.
  • The host pays for all readings and allocates a certain amount of time to a reading for each guest.  This works very well for large gatherings.  Astrology readings are typically viewed as part of the entertainment, along with a band or other entertainment of your choice.  For larger parties, you will need to hire several readers (either several astrologers or other psychic readers such as tarot card readers, palm readers and face readers.   I can refer you to an excellent Aspen area tarot card reader that I work many parties with.

Send me an email expressing your interest and we can discuss your party ideas.

Solar-Lunar Eclipse – Planetary Alignment with the Galactic Center

Year 2010 promises to be a year of dynamic, challenging, and exciting planetary energy!   In Year 2010 the planets align with the galactic center.  A 26,000 year cycle ends and a new Age begins.  Amazing, awe inspiring energy, indeed!

The new energy began with the December 16 new moon and grew in intensity at the December 21 solstice. Then on New Year’s Eve, we experienced a full moon/blue moon/lunar eclipse. That Moon urged us to let go of the things that we no longer need–relationships, unworn clothes or just outdated ideas.  Many of you have experienced an emotion-laden time.  It is not easy letting go!

On New Year’s Day, Mercury (communication) and Mars (energy) were retrograde (apparent backward motion).  Retrograde planets slow things down.  We go over old business. We become tired of the status quo and just want to move forward.

Forward action finally comes in the form of a solar eclipse shortly after midnight on January 15, 2010.  A Solar eclipse always occurs at a new moon.  New moons urge us to move forward into new actions and new ways of thinking.  It is time to begin new projects and to look at old problems and irritations in a new way.  It is time to improve your old job, find a new job or to create your own new job.  Entrepreneurship will flourish during 2010.

Saturn retrogrades on January 13 calling for us to redefine and reassess our goals, the roles we play and our life conditions.

Mercury begins forward motion on January 15 and Venus is in close contact with the eclipse point, both in Capricorn.  Communication, sales, commerce and transportation are stimulated.  However, because Capricorn energy is sober and painstaking, we cannot expect a dramatic rise in our fortunes. We can expect a slow rise from the low point.

This information applies to all sun signs, but those with planets in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) will feel the energy more intensely and for a longer period of time. Some people may feel the eclipse energy well into Year 2012.

Thought for Contemplation and Meditation:

The Sabian symbol for the eclipse at 25º Capricorn is:  “A nature spirit dancing in the mist of a waterfall.”  This beautiful image urges us to take time to celebrate lightness of spirit and fun (nature spirit dancing) in the middle of our challenges (the waterfall). “One must still have chaos in oneself to give  birth to a dancing star.”  Friedrich Nietzsche

In this dynamic, challenging, exciting time, set your aspirations in motion, work hard, but go with the flow.  Enjoy the easy times, the challenging times, the upheaval, and the chaos.  We truly are ushering in a new paradigm.
