November 2015 Astrology Newsletter

There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.― Desiderius Erasmus

The nodes of the moon have been on the Aries/Libra karmic axis for the last year and one-half, which has brought many lessons and situations regarding close relationships of all kinds. Money matters and social interaction were also in focus. Many people have met their soul mates during this time, while others have learned hard, but important, lessons around relationships. (Of course, a soul mate relationship can also bring an abundance of learning opportunities.) This energy was especially strong during the last lunar and solar eclipses in September.

The Karmic axis of the North and South Nodes has now moved into Virgo (North Node) and Pisces (South Node) at 28 degrees of those signs. Remember, the Nodes move counterclockwise through the chart and are always in opposition to one another. This can create a push me/pull me situation where we vacillate between two choices or courses of action. However, the positive outcome is that the Nodes in Virgo/Pisces until early May 2017 create opportunities to make your dreams (Pisces) and “what ifs” into reality (Virgo). If you have the North Node in Virgo in your natal chart you will be having a nodal return during the next 18 months. It is an opportune time to review and renew your objectives around service, work, health and spiritual objectives.

The South Node in Pisces gives you imagination, intuition, creativity and the ability to dream big dreams and to sense opportunities. Negatively, it can bring confusion, delusion and illusion. The North Node in Virgo gives you high analytical, organizational and reality checking abilities. Negatively, it can bring the tendency to nitpick and worry about small details and, most importantly, it can prevent you from seeing the big picture.

When you balance the energy of the two Nodes it is clear that you now have an 18-month window of opportunity in which you can see the big picture and can dream big (North Node in Pisces), while maintaining your ability to analyze and reality check your ideas. The energy could be summed up as “dream big while keeping your feet on the ground.” It will also be a good time to fix, stabilize and heal relationships, situations and conditions.

Look to the houses in your birth chart holding the transiting Nodes to understand where the energy is the strongest. Those of you with planets between 25 and 29 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces and Gemini) will be especially affected. Because Chiron and Neptune are both transiting Pisces there is abundant potential for great healing and spiritual insights. If you have a lingering health problem it could be a good time to look for the right healing modality. Alternative healing methods in conjunction with allopathic medicine are especially favored. However, be wary of the tendency to escape unpleasant truths by disappearing into sleep, drugs or fantasy.

On November 1, Mercury enters Scorpio where it stays until November 20. Our thinking processes now become more focused and intense. Then on November 11 when the new moon is in Scorpio our emotions follow suit.

On November 6 the Sun sextiles Pluto at 13 degrees Scorpio/Capricorn and Mercury trines Neptune at 7 degrees of Scorpio/Pisces, releasing deep wells of intense, inner energy. Especially favored is compassionate conversations geared toward healing deep rifts and separations. If you feel estranged from someone important in your life, this could be a good time to try to bridge the gap.

The new Moon on November 11 is at 19 degrees Scorpio, while the Sun sextiles Jupiter at 18 degrees Scorpio/Virgo. These aspects bring healing, wholeness and prosperity into your life. This is an excellent time to set your intentions for the 18-month Nodal transit of Virgo/Pisces.

Venus enters Libra on November 8 followed by Mars on November 12 is a good time to negotiate agreements and to settle any ongoing disputes. November 13 when Venus is sextile Saturn and Mercury is sextile Jupiter is an especially good day for negotiating sticky issues. Until the 18th of November this energy can also be very helpful in working out relationship differences.

Be sure to finish your negotiations before November 20 when Venus squares Pluto at 13 degrees of Libra/Capricorn. The super charged emotional intensity of the Venus/Pluto square is not conducive to settling relationship issues. Be careful with regard to money and investment matters at this time also.

Activities concerning work and career are favored on November 22 when Mars sextiles Saturn at 6 degrees Libra/Sagittarius.

You may find yourself feeling like “Catty Cathy” on November 24 at the Full Moon in Gemini. Ideas will be overflowing and you may want to be active and on the move.

To summarize, the shift of the Nodal axis brings in another astrological cycle. Because the nodes are fairly slow moving, many other cycles will play out during the Nodes’ 18-month transit of Virgo/Pisces. The North Node is a karmic indicator of your life purpose. Any contact of the North Node with a planet or important point in your chart is worthy of your close attention. The overlying theme of this nodal cycle can be summed up in this quote from Jonas Salk, who discovered the polio vaccine:

Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.

October 2015 Astrology Newsletter

“One of the beautiful things about having seasons is that even when one leaves, we know that it will return.  It will certainly take time, some ups and downs and a great deal of acceptance, but eventually a rough season of life or a season of loss will fade into the distance and be replaced with blossoming flowers and long sunny days, or, depending on your season of choice, a large amount of powder days”―Barbara Platts, journalist in the Aspen Times Weekly, October 7, 2015

There is certainly lots of evidence of the changing seasons here and though it is very beautiful, it does bring a change in mood.  Astrologically, October promises to be a little quieter than the last few months.  After the rather wild month of September with two eclipses and the solstice that is welcome news for most of us.

The first major aspect of the month occurs on October 6-7 when the Sun squares Pluto at 13 degrees of Libra/Capricorn and Mars opposes Neptune at 7 degrees of Virgo/Pisces.  This is a mixed bag of energy.  Sun square Pluto can bring power struggles with those around you, but it can also give you a burst of power and willpower to get something done that you have been putting off.
Mars (action) in Virgo in opposition to Neptune (lack of boundaries) in Pisces can bring confusion and anxiety.  The change of seasons along with this active but unfocused energy can make you and those around you feel edgy, confused, unsettled, irritable and susceptible to sudden outbursts of anger.  Used positively it can assist you by giving you the drive and energy to move toward your goals despite opposition from others. The best remedy is to be mindful of your actions.  Hazy thinking can make you more accident prone.  Because Neptune rules water and Mars brings an abundance of untamed energy, water events (typhoons, 1000 year floods, etc.) may continue to be in the news.   The hazy thinking will be mitigated a little when Mercury turns direct on October 9 at 1 degree Libra.

Relationship issues could be front and center on October 10 when Venus squares Saturn at 2 degrees of Virgo/Sagittarius.  Relationship fears may dominate and you may feel compelled to get to the bottom of a relationship issue that you have been concerned about.  Also be aware that little habits or mannerisms of someone close to you could all of a sudden get on your nerves and you could find yourself becoming too critical or fault finding.  This too shall pass. The good news is that now that Saturn is in Sagittarius it will be a little easier to talk about issues that just seemed too touchy and too emotional when Saturn was retrograding back into Scorpio the last several months.

More relationship dynamics come to the forefront when the Sun opposes Uranus at 19 degrees of Libra/Aries on October 11.  Some of you may decide that a certain relationship just isn’t worth the cost and you may decide to move on, especially since the new moon (beginnings) transits 19 degrees Libra on October 12.  Just remember that just as you are feeling unsettled and restless so is the other person.  It may be best to wait a week or so before any major confrontation.

The energy flows easily on October 13 and 14 when several easy energy paves the way – Mercury sextiles Saturn, Moon sextiles Mars, Pluto and Jupiter; then on October 15 Mars trines Pluto.  If you are trying to solve a relationship (or any other issue) this is a good time to positively work things out.  Just remember that sextiles ease the energy flow, but you have to initiate the action to make them work for you.  Sextiles and trines do not initiate action but do assist in the easy flow of the matters under consideration.

Your thinking and actions may once again become a little muddled on October 16 when Venus opposes Neptune at 7 degrees of Virgo/Pisces.  The old saying about something being too good to be true may apply at this time, especially in matters of the heart.  Those of you who are fighting addictions may find that this is a challenging time.  Do you really need that last piece of chocolate cake?  This can be a very romantic time between lovers.

Watch for entrenched, stubborn thinking when Mercury squares Pluto on October 22nd.  Allow others to have their own viewpoints during this time as small differences of opinion could lead to an uncomfortable standoff.  Use the energy instead to go inward.  You could uncover some very interesting and helpful psychological insights about yourself and others.

A full planetary lineup occurs on October 27 with a Full Moon at  4 degrees Taurus trine Pluto and sextile Neptune, Sun trine Neptune and sextile Pluto.  These are all easy-flowing aspects which could give you the ability to find answers and insights.  You will not feel like getting into the heavy stuff, but rather, to just enjoy life.  The only troublesome aspect is Venus quincunx Uranus, which could bring up old, seemingly unsolvable relationship issues.

October 30 when the Sun is trine Neptune at 7 degrees of Scorpio/Pisces is the perfect day for meditating on where you are in your life and how well you have fulfilled your spiritual and material needs.  You will feel very close to the cosmos at this time so pay attention to dreams, visions, synchronicity and your intuition.

Enjoy this first full month of fall and the beautiful changing seasons.

Astrology – Transits July 2015

There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What’s up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don’t think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!”― Terry Pratchett, The Truth

This month the cosmic energy lines up to help you see your glass as full and overflowing.  Venus, the planet of self worth, net worth, beauty, love, and the receiver of cosmic energy has been closely conjunct Jupiter, the planet of abundance, since the end of June in the sign of Leo. This duo brings a loving, optimistic, “I can do anything” vibe to the planetary picture.  Opportunities that present themselves can be better than anticipated in all areas of life, but especially so in the realm of personal relationships and love.  However, over-inflated expectations (Jupiter) will be reigned in on July 13 when Venus squares Saturn. But not to worry, Venus will be bringing its magic in the exuberant sign of Leo for most of the summer.

On July 19 Venus enters the sign of Virgo and then turns stationary retrograde on July 25.  It retrogrades back through Leo throughout the month of August where it turns stationary direct on September 9.  By the time Venus leaves Leo on October 8 it will have spent an unprecedented four months in the sign of Leo.  If Leo is your Sun or ascendant sign or you have planets in Leo this long Venus transit can offer a significant boost to your life.   Look to the house in your chart with Leo on the cusp and also to the house that contains any Leo planets to determine where you will receive this cosmic gift.

On July 22nd the Sun enters Leo joined by Mercury on the 23rd.  Until August 23 is an opportune time for self promotion and for promotion any of your key projects, especially if you are a Leo Sun sign or have a Leo ascendant.

On July 25 Mars at 20 degrees Cancer squares Uranus in Aries.  This is a very innovative, volatile, sudden, fast-acting energy.  It can bring disruptions, confrontations, anger and rebellious demonstrations.  Violent weather of all kinds is very possible, with lightning (Uranus) caused fires (Mars) quite likely.  On a personal note, be especially careful while traveling, and when using fire.  Be aware that tiny disagreements with others can grow into a major riff under this influence.  The positive news about this square is that it can open up new opportunities (especially under the Leo archetype).   It is an awakening, “clear out the cobwebs” kind of energy so use it to move forward on any new ventures or ideas that you have.

Venus stations retrograde at 0 Virgo on July 25 conjunct Regulus, the fixed star of royalty. Regulus is the brightest star in the constellation Leo the Lion, depicting the Lion’s heart.  It sits almost squarely on the ecliptic (earth’s orbital path).  I am optimistic (Jupiter/Leo) that Regulus’ conjunction with Venus (love energy, receiver of blessings) in the sign of Virgo (healing, service and grounded consideration of the issues) bodes well for promoting our relationship (Venus) with the earth in a loving (Venus), courageous (Regulus) way.

Uranus stations retrograde at 20 degrees Aries on July 26 and remains retrograde until December 26, 2015.  Use this time to perfect the innovative ideas that came to you during the Mars/Uranus square.

On August 1 Saturn ends its long retrograde that began on March 14, 2015.  Look for an easing and quickening in the area of your life that has seemed as though it has been on hold.  Long-sought answers to vexing matters may now appear.  Business matters will be energized as Saturn once again moves forward.

Blessings to all of my readers in the month ahead–may you see your glass as full and overflowing.

I want to remind everyone that the Aspen Saturday Market starts June 12 and will run every Saturday in Aspen, Colorado.  I will be in the Aspen Intuitives booth giving mini astrology readings.  I will also be at the Carbondale, Colorado Mountain Fair from July 24 through July 26.  If you are in the area, please stop and say hello.  I would love to see you there.

Astrology Newsletter June 2015

We also need to be willing to make room in our lives for the impending birth of our dreams. This might mean emptying our life of clutter such as wasted time, energy, resources, or draining relationships. These things can jeopardize our dreams by distracting us at a time when we should be more focused than ever.― Christine Caine, A Life Unleashed: Giving Birth to Your Dreams

The recent full moon in Sagittarius opposing retrograde Mercury in Gemini, brought our attention to our spiritual connection and to our connection to those unlike us, whether a foreign country or someone in our life who is of a different religion skin color or sexual orientation. It also brought our awareness to communication and the need to clarify and simplify our life. With Mercury in square aspect to Neptune in Pisces old issues, conflicts and confusion have taken center stage.

This Mercury retrograde is stronger than many, because Mercury is in its own sign. Since May 13, you likely have felt the need to sort things out and clear things away, including the confusion and cobwebs in your mind. I know that I have felt a strong need to clear out unwanted material “stuff” that has been holding me back and creating confusion in my life. Indeed, Mercury’s retrograde period is an excellent time to attend to any niggling details that keep your mind cluttered and sap your energy. Mercury goes direct on June 11, but the positive energy in place this month should allow you to capitalize on the “clearing out” that began under retrograde Mercury.

Jupiter in Leo trine Uranus in Aries all month brings sudden flashes of insight and ideas and the inspiration to put them to use. After a very long siege of Uranus square Pluto (still in effect but not as potent now), the Jupiter/Uranus effect is like a breath of fresh air. If you have felt like you were under siege for a long time, this transit may give you the courage to go out into the world under a more positive vibe as it favors good fortune and expansion. However, you will need to do your part. Squares propel us forward, but the easy trine energy requires action to bring about results.

The energy is active and positive the week of July 8. After Mercury turns direct on the 12th is a good time to move forward on matters relating to all forms of communication, such as travel, technology, advertising and website maintenance and promotion.

Meanwhile, Saturn is retrograde in Sagittarius until June 14 when it returns to Scorpio where it remains until September 17. This can be a time of intense (Scorpio) karmic (Saturn) clearing and deep transformation (Scorpio). Saturn is the great taskmaster (for your own good of course LOL). It transited through Scorpio from October 5, 2012 until December 24, 2014. Unresolved Issues from that time period will now be brought front and center for you to deal with once again.

Saturn retrograde will be felt by everyone, but it will especially be felt by those of you with planets in the last degrees of Scorpio, Leo, Taurus and Aquarius. Look to the house in which Saturn is retrograding to determine the possible issues that may be felt during the summer Saturn retrograde period. For instance:

  • 1st house – health issues, low self esteem;
  • 2nd house – money/value issues (what do you value and how much do you value it?);
  • 3rd house – siblings, education/teaching or neighbor(hood) problems;
  • 4th house – family, family of origin, home repair and parents;
  • 5th house – creativity, lack of fun, and concerns regarding your children or lovers;
  • 6th house – work, feeling overworked and/or undervalued, daily routines, and health issues including tiredness, low immune response and teeth and bones;
  • 7th house – partnerships including business, marriage, and long-term relationships and hidden enemies;
  • 8th house – sexuality, your partner’s money, and crisis both small and large. Its more esoteric meaning relates to transformation on a deep level;
  • 9th house – higher education, spirituality, metaphysics, lawsuits and foreign travel;
  • 10th house – public standing and career;
  • 11th house – a friend or friends, groups and your hopes and wishes; and
  • 12th house – may pertain to hidden enemies, traumas from the past, and how you sabotage yourself.

The positive side of this transit is the opportunity to dig out the root causes of any problems and to deal with them in a mature, responsible and long-term way (Saturn). Saturn will reward your hard work!

The New Moon of June 15 in Gemini favors communication. The next four weeks are a very good time to begin projects that involve exchanging ideas and information; especially projects that were delayed during Mercury retrograde. Surprises and excitement could be evident, though mostly in a good way. However, lay low on June 23 when communications can be a little garbled due to a Mercury/Neptune square at 10 degrees Gemini/Pisces.

The Sun enters Cancer on June 21 bringing the summer solstice. The Sun in Cancer shifts the emphasis to family, your emotions and your emotional ties to others. The vibes are mostly good during the rest of the month when the energy points to positive emotions and relationship matters. The creative, expansive and optimistic energy mentioned earlier will also be part of the planetary picture.

The Full Moon in Capricorn on July 1 shares the sky with Venus conjunct Jupiter in Leo and the Sun in Cancer trine Neptune in Pisces. Those transits start the month of July with lots of optimism and good feelings with just a hint of seriousness and responsibility thrown in to keep things real.

Enjoy this month of the three C’s of communication, clearing and creativity!

I want to remind everyone that the Aspen Saturday Market starts June 12 and will run every Saturday (except the Aspen Market will be on July 3rd instead of July 4th) in Aspen. I will be in the Aspen Intuitives booth giving mini astrology readings. I will also be at the Carbondale, Colorado Mountain Fair from July 24 through July 26. If you are in the area, please stop and say hello. I would love to see you there.
