Astrology Transits April 2018 – Power, Control and Steady Progress

Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal — Ralph Vaull Starr

The month opens with Mars, Saturn and Pluto all transiting through Capricorn; and all are square transiting retrograde Mercury. Their message to you is to re‑evaluate (Mercury retrograde), transform (Pluto), structure (Saturn) and then take action (Mars). This careful energy is offset by the Sun, Mercury and Uranus all transiting through Aries square the Capricorn planets. The Sun and Uranus project a very strong, dynamic energy. You may be frustrated and impatient (Sun and Uranus) because nothing seems to be progressing as it should. Saturn square the Sun can bring feelings of tiredness, a slight depression and a general sluggish feeling. From late March through the middle of April is an excellent time to set goals and to make plans on how to accomplish those goals. Once Mercury turns direct on April 15, you will be in a good position to move forward in a less-obstructed way.

Venus was conjunct Uranus during late March and then enters Taurus on March 31. You may have seen some rather erratic relationship actions during late March due to the planet of love and relationship connecting with the planet of sudden and/or strange actions.

March 31: Full Moon at 10 Degrees Libra Square Mars and Saturn in Capricorn. This is a challenging full Moon, especially for all relationship matters. You will be prone to seeing all of the faults and negatives in others. You will also be more than ready to show your anger and to fight about any such flaws. Others will also be feeling this energy and will be noticing and pointing out your flaws. Better to use this time to work hard and to move toward any career or service goals. Wait to address relationship matters until a more auspicious time. This is not the best time to take dare devil actions that could result in broken bones. Be extra kind to your bones and teeth during the several days before and after this full Moon.

April 1, Mars Conjunct Saturn at 8 Degrees Capricorn. While this energy is in force, hard work is the order of the day. There is a distinct breakdown in the communication of these two planets. Mars wants to progress full speed ahead without caution, while Saturn wants to be cautious and to keep its nose to the grindstone. Much progress can be made at this time if you are able to blend the two energies. Otherwise, this push me, pull me, energy can be exhausting. You would be wise to be clear about your purpose, your plans and your desired outcome during this challenging time. Those with Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra natal contacts will be especially impacted by this energy.

April 7: Venus Trine Saturn at 9 Taurus/Capricorn.  Venus, the planet of “blessings received” trine Saturn, the planet of business bodes well for gains through your job or business endeavor(s).  It is an especially good time to make long range plans, especially when those plans involve the significant others in your life.

April 10 to 12: Sun Square Pluto 20-21 Aries/Capricorn.  Everyone wants to be in control, egos are pumped up and crisis and conflicts of all kinds prevail.  You may find that you are dealing with long-buried psychological issues.  Think before you act, as many of your actions will stem from unconscious motivations during this intense time period.  Be forewarned that it takes courage to face your demons.  However, to the extent you can do so, this is an unparalleled time to transform and heal deep wounds.  It is important to be aware of what is really going on in your psyche.

Sun Inconjunct Jupiter at 21 Aries/Scorpio; Pluto Sextile Jupiter at 21 Capricorn/Scorpio.  Power plays and power struggles are likely, both in your own circle and globally.  The inconjunct aspect is like a never-ending irritation that is hard to resolve.

April 11 to 13:  Venus Trine Mars at 14 Degrees Taurus/Capricorn; Venus Sextile Neptune at 14 Degrees Taurus/Pisces; and Mars Sextile Neptune at 14 degrees Capricorn/Pisces.  These transits give us a lovely break from the Saturn energy.  They offer an ease and a flowing energy for getting closer to those you love, writing poetry, planting flowers or taking a dreamy walk in nature.  Enjoy!

April 15: Mercury turns direct at 4 degrees Aries.

April 16: New Moon at 26 Degrees Aries Conjunct Uranus at 28 degrees Aries.  Now is the time to really move forward and to wake up from the doldrums of the first two weeks of April.  Mercury is now moving direct and the Sun and Moon conjunct Uranus is a prime time to develop and implement any innovative or unusual ideas that you have been nurturing.  New directions of all kinds are favored whether you are ready or not.

Sun Conjunct Uranus in Aries.  I liken this energy to that of the sparks that fly when you walk over a nylon carpet or when the air becomes charged before a thunderstorm.  Indeed lightning strikes and unsettled, volatile, extreme weather could be part of this tension-filled aspect.  Keep a low profile, drive defensively and do not invite confrontations with others.  Extreme social upheaval, social justice marches and conflicts, political showdowns, clashes and skirmishes are likely.  Keep a cool head and be the voice of reason in any way that you can.  Instead of conflict, use this super-charged energy to advance humanitarian or social causes in a peaceful way.

April 17:  Chiron Enters Aries.  Chiron, the asteroid known as the wounded healer, begins its 50-year journey through Aries. Aries is the “I am” energy. Chiron in Aries wants you to be aware that you are here for a reason.  You have the right to exist and thrive, even with all of your faults and less-than-perfect actions. Learn to be proud of who you are, even as you strive to better yourself.

April 18:  Saturn Turns Retrograde at 9 Degrees Capricorn.  Saturn retrograde in Capricorn previews the prevailing theme of the summer.  Its message underscores the movement of Uranus into Taurus on May 15, 2018.  Saturn retrograde in Capricorn turns the focus to the need to consolidate, prioritize and plan.  It says, “Do you really need that new thingamajig right now at whatever cost?”  The answer is “No, you probably don’t.”

This is an excellent time to meet with a financial planner to go over your finances.  It may no longer be prudent to have risky stocks in your portfolio.  A plan to pay off your credit cards or to otherwise become debt free is another excellent way you can use Saturn retrograde in Capricorn to its best use.  A trip or two to the recycling center would also be in order.  While this is true for everyone, those with planets from 2 to 10 degrees of the cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra) will be especially affected.

April 19:  Sun Enters Taurus.

April 22:  Pluto turns Retrograde at 21 Degrees Capricorn.  Pluto will be retrograde until September 30, 2018, giving us a long time to work on our hidden motivations, attitudes, emotions and needs.  Retrograde Pluto forces us to look at our power and control issues. Some of us give away our power too often, while others resort to bullying tactics in order to protect ourselves.  Most of us do both, though we often don’t realize it.  Both types of power issues will come to the forefront during this long backwards transit.

This is also a superb time to regenerate yourself.  This can be through weight loss or gain, a total body cleanse, detoxing and some form of psychological renewal such as meditation, yoga or tai chi.

April 24:  Venus enters Gemini.

April 29:  Full Moon at 9 Degrees Scorpio.  This brings more of the Plutonian stuff.  Deep soul searching and renewal and regeneration activities are favored.

Astrology Transits March 2018 – Setting Intentions

Focus on the powerful, euphoric, magical, synchronistic, beautiful parts of life, and the universe will give them to you. — Unknown

March 2018 is chock full of significant planetary happenings.  The month begins with a full Moon in Virgo.  Then Mercury and Venus leave Pisces and enter Aries where they stay until the end of March.

Jupiter turns retrograde on March 8 and Mercury turns retrograde on the 22nd.  Finally, we have another full Moon, this one in Libra on March 31st.

The Virgo full Moon on the 1st speaks to issues around work and service, food, diet and health and body care issues.  Because it is in opposition to the Piscean stellium, its particular focus is on mind body issues such as the beneficial effects of meditation, yoga and chi gong on the health of the physical body.  It asks you to be practical and grounded even as you dream and envision bigger horizons.

Venus trine Jupiter urges you to put the “Law of Abundance” into practice. Spend some time visualizing what you want, create a vision board and/or perform rituals around abundance and what it means to you.  Abundance is not necessarily material or financial.  It can be abundance in relationships, beauty, and peace and tranquility.  One especially effective practice is to write yourself a check for unlimited abundance and then work with the check during the year.  Each day take the check in your hands, see yourself reaping the rewards and feel your emotions as the abundance manifests.  The more emotion you can put into this ritual the better and the more you believe that your wish is already manifesting, the faster the results. Hint:  It’s best to always say “this or something better” after stating your desire.  Why limit the results, especially under this magical aspect?

March 13 when Jupiter trines the Sun is an especially advantageous day for confirming and speaking your intention. This energy will remain extra strong until March 21, but you will want to continue your abundance ritual all year.

Mercury and Venus enter Aries on the 6th, where they will stay until the end of the month.  This is a wonderful, forward-moving aspect.  Venus with Mercury adds an ease to all kinds of communication.  In addition, Mercury and Venus in the active sign of Aries lends a certain air of urgency to all matters.  This would be a good time to clear the air around unresolved issues. The only danger is that the Aries influence could cause your words (or someone else’s words) to come across as a little too aggressive or pushy.  Otherwise, it is good for business, personal and romantic communication.

Jupiter turns retrograde in Scorpio on the 8th.  While Jupiter marches backward, it will trine the Sun on the 13th and will sextile Pluto on the 23rd.  It will continue its retrograde movement until July 10, 2018.  You may remember that I had discussed Jupiter in Scorpio as having the message of “where have I been underestimating myself?”  Following up on that theme, Jupiter retrograde is a great time to take stock of where you have made progress in loving and appreciating your talents and attributes and where you have fallen short.  Planets become stronger when they are retrograde, so don’t forget to continue your abundance practices during this retrograde period.

The Libra new Moon trine Mars on the 17th is another positive Moon that can boost your confidence and make you feel more alive and positive.  It is an excellent time to discuss delicate issues with others because you will be able to assert yourself without stirring up a lot of hostility.  Ask for what you want and do something you were scared to do or were too shy to do. For my single readers, this Moon is custom made for taking the initiative and making contact with that special someone you have been wanting to get to know.  Those of you with a Libra or Aries Sun or Moon will find this Moon to be especially strong.

The Sun enters Aries on March 20, heralding the spring equinox and the beginning of spring.  As an astrologer, I think of the Sun’s ingress into Aries as the beginning of the astrological year.  The vernal equinox is more important astrologically than the calendar New Year.  This is another good day to set your intentions around what you want in the coming astrological new year.

Mercury turns retrograde on the 22nd until it resumes forward motion on April 16.

The old saying is that “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.”  This year is just the opposite, as the end of March is anything but “lamb like.”

Sun square Mars on March 22nd is a challenging, testy, angry energy.  Others will be ready for battle over the smallest things and you will be in the mood to engage them.  Best to chill out, as you will tend to take things much too personally and will be overly competitive and overly impulsive.  Be especially careful around knives, weapons, tools and any other sharp or dangerous objects and/or activities.  If anger bubbles up, it would be a good idea to engage in physical activity to release the pent-up energy.

The month continues on a super-charged note of intensity when the full Moon at 10 degrees of Libra forms a T-square with the Sun/Mercury conjunction in Aries and the Mars/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn on March 31.  This cardinal T-square presents a situation that pits me against you and you against me and “I am darn well going to tell you how you have injured me.”  Avoid confrontations.  Use this over-the-top energy to become unstuck.  It is positive when used to break out of inertia.  Put on your superman/superwoman cape and march forward!

As if that weren’t enough, the Sun, Moon, Mercury and the North and South Nodes form a mystic rectangle.  A mystic rectangle aspect pattern is made up of two oppositions (heavy red lines in the following chart), two sextiles (blue dotted lines) and two trines (lines with a triangle). The opposition aspect shows opposing influences, choices or viewpoints.  The sextiles and trines will help you navigate between the opposition polarities.  A mystic rectangle can be helpful in working out choices that seem to be at cross purposes to each other.  Like all challenging aspects, you need to do the work and take the necessary action to use them to their optimum potential.

In closing consider this quote regarding intention:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. ― Margaret Mead

Astrology Transits January 2018 –
New Paths, New Energy

I am feeling a surge of optimism as this first month of the new year begins. The first ten days of January have some really active, hopeful energy that foreshadows the coming 364 days.

This quote by Neil Gaiman beautifully describes the energy of the new year.

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

The New Year opens with a full Moon in Cancer in opposition to Venus and the Sun in Capricorn. The full Moon is a call to action to let go of other’s expectations and tradition-bound “shoulds” that are no longer working. This is especially true with regard to family matters.

The planetary troops rally around this idea on the 2nd of January when Uranus goes stationary direct in Aries. Uranus going direct means that the chains are loosened and it is time to express your unique, scarred, beautiful self in all of its glory.

Expressing this energy won’t be without its challenges. Saturn has just entered its home sign, Capricorn, where it is strong. Because it is strong, it will exert extra influence in your life over the next two and one-half years. Saturn in Capricorn wants to cling to the status quo. It advises caution and reminds us that rules were put in place for a reason. It can often mean that you will need to work harder for what you accomplish. The “quick fix” will no longer work.

The good news about Saturn is that he does reward in due time so long as you put in the effort and diligence to accomplish your goals. Those of you who have been going through a harsh Saturn period (Saturn conjunct, square, or in opposition to your natal planets) may very well be seeing surprising rewards in the area of your chart where Saturn is transiting. Always remember that Saturn rewards in due time according to his timetable, not yours. Please, hang in there through any rough times so you can collect your reward.

Venus’ conjunct the Sun and then Pluto in Capricorn on January 6-8 begins a time of questioning personal values, particularly around your career and/or public standing. Potentially interesting news from the government could surface as both Venus and Mercury conjunct with Pluto during the month of January.

Re-evaluate your plans and ideas when Mercury is conjunct Saturn on the 12th. The best success will be obtained when your plans are both innovative (Uranus) and practical (Saturn).

On January 6-8 Mars is conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio and Uranus is trine Mercury. Anger (yours and other’s) could be a problem during this time. Keep your emotions in check and use this charged-up energy to move your plans and ideas forward. There are no retrograde planets during this time period and the impetus to move forward is sizzling.

Uranus’ message conflicts with Saturn’s message so there will be some tension and conflict between the two. However, rather than let yourself be torn between the two courses of action, I strongly advise you to go for what you want and to use Saturn as the “voice of reason” to keep you from getting in over your head.

The New Moon conjunct the Sun and Venus in Capricorn on the 16th is a time when you will be tested regarding your values. This could show up as a conflict between career wishes and home wishes. Or, it might manifest as a desire to change careers or work methods altogether.

It is important to realize that, as the Sun, Mercury and Venus go over Pluto at 19 degrees Capricorn this month, the choices you make now could have long-ranging consequences. Choose wisely and be careful not to burn any bridges until you are absolutely sure it is the right thing to do.

Finally on January 31 we have the first eclipse of the year, a total super moon, total lunar eclipse at 11 degrees Leo/Aquarius. In keeping with this year’s theme, this eclipse is about individuality versus going along with consensus and the herd. I will have more to say about his eclipse later.

The next eclipse is a partial solar eclipse in Aquarius on February 15, 2018. In all, we have a total of five eclipses this year. It is certainly a year for shaking things up. Learn to go with the flow and stay grounded and you may find yourself in a very good spot by January 2019.

Find out how the January 31 and February 15 eclipses will affect you by taking advantage of my eclipse reading special. Astrology Transits December 2017 – Plan Then Act

What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action.  Meister Eckhart

The month of December begins on a challenging note with Mars opposing Uranus.  Mingled in is the full Moon in Gemini, the Neptune influence and Mercury retrograde.  As the month progresses the energy mellows and is quite nice around the holidays.  The month ends with Saturn moving into Capricorn, which ushers in a two-year period devoted to building structures and facing reality.

Mars in Libra Opposition Uranus in Aries. Mars opposition Uranus continues as the month opens.  As noted last month, this is a touchy dynamic.  It will be noticed in any kind of relationships.  You may experience it as a decision to no longer put up with someone else’s stuff.  Unfairness in any relationship will be the hot button that could derail a relationship.  It’s best to wait to state your case until after December  9 when cooler energy prevails.

After December 3, the focus is on studying, planning and solidifying your ideas due to Mercury turning retrograde at 29 degrees Sagittarius.

Mercury is also now out-of-bounds. When a planet is out-of-bounds, its energy becomes very strong and seems to take over the chart.

Think before you speak, as Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius makes you prone to blurting out whatever is on your mind.

Back up your computer and cell phone just in case.  If possible, delay foreign travel until these aspects change in several days.

December 3, Gemini Full Moon.  The Moon at 11 degrees Gemini is in opposition to the Sun at 11 degrees Sagittarius and square Neptune at 11 degrees Pisces forming a T-Square.  This is one interesting dynamic as Jupiter in Scorpio is also trine Neptune. There are lots of chances for confusion during this particular full Moon.

Look for even more “hidden” news to come out about improprieties by prominent people (Jupiter in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces).  There could be additional stories regarding religion or the clergy.

The Sabian symbol for 11 degrees of Gemini is:  “A Black Slave Girl Demands Her Rights of Her Mistress.”  This means that it is time to stand up and say “no” to those things and people who are no longer serving you. It is about showing your authenticity, walking your talk and talking your truth.  Funny (or not) how this is right in tune with recent news stories!

December 6:  Mercury is conjunct Saturn at 28 degrees Sagittarius and both are Sextile Mars at 28 degrees Libra.  Mercury conjunct Saturn brings a sobering, down-to-earth feeling to the overheated Mars opposition Uranus that opened the month.  The lovely sextile to Mars in Libra adds a bit of a cooperative feeling.

December 9, Mars enters Scorpio.  Mars in Scorpio brings a burst of energy around our deeper motivations.  It illuminates our deepest emotions and desires.  With Jupiter also in Scorpio, it is time, now more than ever, to throw off our restraining thoughts and go for it.

The downside of Mars in Scorpio is that you may be more prone to holding resentments, jealousy and simmering anger.

December 10 through December 16:

Mercury in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries is nice for ideas popping in out of the blue.  Pay attention to hunches.

Venus in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces could bring some confusion around relationship matters.  Things may not be what they seem to be.  This transit is good for contemplation, not good for action and making decisions.

Sun conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius  is another good idea day.

Sun in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries.  You may feel bored and wish you could hit the open road.  This is another good idea day so let those ideas percolate, think original thoughts or invent something.

December 18, New Moon in Sagittarius. All new Moons are about starting something new.  This one is about opening and expanding your mind, your consciousness and your horizons.

The dynamics change on December 20 when Saturn enters Capricorn where it will stay until March 23, 2020.  Don’t panic, taskmaster Saturn can be harsh but it can also bring rewards.  I’ll talk more about this at a later time.

December 20 and 21, First Saturn, and then Venus enters Capricorn.  Career matters heat up from now through January 21st.  The fog lifts and the way becomes clear to meet your career goals. Saturn is strong and at-home when in Capricorn.

Venus enters Capricorn on December 25.  Venus, the planet of love and relationships in Capricorn on Christmas Day bodes well for traditional family gatherings.  The status quo will be important.  This is not the time to let others hear the brilliant new ideas you came up with earlier in the month.  Be like Saturn and keep the conversation traditional, grounded and maybe even somewhat boring.

I am now doing readings that look at your year ahead, transits, solar arc directions and progressions at a 15% discount through the end of the year.  These readings make great Christmas gifts!  Contact me at
