Astrology Transits December 2018 – Set Your Vision

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside dreams. Who looks inside, awakens. — Anonymous

December opens with a lingering influence from retrograde Mercury in Scorpio and Venus moving direct from Libra into Scorpio.  With the two personal planets remaining in Scorpio, the emphasis is on continuing to dig deeply into understanding cause and effect, especially in relationship matters.  As always, the Scorpio archetype is about transformation and rebuilding.  The question to ask is: “What do I need to transform” and/or “What do I need to let go of in order to move forward?”

After the first week of December, the energy and the focus shift to establishing a vision for the New Year.  In fact, the planetary vibes are so good for setting a vision and goal that I would advise everyone to do that work now instead of after New Year’s Day.  You will want to have your goals and visions firmly in place by then, because 2019 will start off in a high-paced, active way.

December 1-6:  Venus at 29 Degrees Libra in T-Square with Uranus in Aries and the North and South Nodes at 29 Degrees Cancer/Capricorn.  Sun in Sagittarius Square Mars and Neptune in Pisces. This is an intense time of agitation and emotional upheaval.  Retrograde Mercury cautions us to stay grounded and to look before we leap.  There is a strong karmic connection due to the involvement of the Nodes.  We may need to face old karmic issues or to make amends for past actions.  The optimistic Sagittarius Sun square aggressive Mars and dreamy Neptune in Pisces can manifest as being unable to discern boundaries.  It is, however, a great aspect for any creative endeavors. With Mercury still retrograde, it would be prudent to watch your language, as hurtful language can unknowingly erupt.  Mercury goes stationary direct on December 6.

December 7:  Mars Conjunct Neptune at 13 Degrees Pisces Square the New Moon in Sagittarius. Mars Semisquare Uranus.  Communication is fuzzy due to stationary Mercury and the Pisces energy.  The Mars/Uranus aspect brings a strong element of chaotic, angry, unfocused energy.  This is definitely not a good time to make major decisions.  Use the New Moon energy to plan and envision your desired future.  Think and plan but don’t act!  The more you can imagine and visualize your desires the easier it will be to manifest them when Mars enters Aries on New Year’s Day.  This is not the best time to travel; delay any trips until the middle of the month if possible.

December 12:  Mercury Enters Sagittarius and Squares Neptune and Mars in Pisces.  Though the energy lightens considerably when Mercury joins the Sun and Jupiter in Sagittarius, the challenging square to Neptune and Mars has a lingering feeling of fog or fuzziness around our ideas.  As stated above, this is a good time to set your vision and to envision; it is not as conducive to actual action.  Use the Sagittarius optimism to set your sights on a higher outcome than would have been possible just a few weeks ago.

December 16-17:  Venus Sextile Saturn and Mars Sextile Pluto.  This is such a great time to examine power issues in your life and to resolve any dis-equilibrium around the balance of power.  Venus’ travels through Libra and Scorpio gave you plenty of time to come to grips with any such issues.  Now is the time to confront and resolve those issues, especially those between the feminine and masculine aspects of yourself and others.

December 19:  Sun at 27 Degrees Sagittarius Square Chiron at 27 Degrees Pisces.  Old health issues and/or hurtful emotional issues can come back to temporarily haunt you. However, Sun/Chiron also holds the key to resolution.  The Sun in the sign of the truth seeker (Sagittarius) can unlock and illuminate any unseen, foggy or unclear ideas around those issues.

December 20-21:  Sun Enters Capricorn at the Winter Solstice Trine Uranus; and Venus Trine Neptune.  All year we have been dealing with the upsets and chaos of challenging aspects to Uranus.  Now, with the Sun in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries, we finally have the green light.  We can more easily make the changes that we were unable to make during the long summer and fall punctuated with retrograde planets. Venus trine Neptune at the solstice adds a lovely romantic glow to everything we encounter.

December 22:  Full Moon at Zero Degrees Cancer/Capricorn.  This Full Moon marks the December turning point when everything is held in the balance. We are very involved in home matters, while another part of us is paying more attention to public and career matters.  Zero degrees is very significant for this Full Moon in cardinal signs.  In a lot of ways, this is all about bringing the different elements of ourselves and our world into balance.  That is:  The elements of earth, water, air and fire; male and female and black and white viewpoints.  The more we look inside, the better we can navigate all of these seeming contradictions.

December 31:  Mars at Zero Degrees Aries.  The New Year blasts off energetically with Mars at zero degrees Aries.  Mars is extra strong in its home sign of Aries and zero degrees is a significant degree denoting strong, active energy and the ability to aggressively move forward.

Now is the time to put all of your visions into practical, energetic use.  Mars in Aries will push you forward toward your dreams.  Mars at zero degrees says, “You may not be ready, but you can do this.  Jump and you will find a way.”  Its like Clark Kent throwing off his everyday clothes to become Superman!  Mars at zero degrees Aries urges you to be Superman/Superwoman.  The New Year’s chart based in New York City, NY at midnight follows:

The Sun conjuncts Saturn in Capricorn on January 2.  With Sun, Saturn, Pluto and the South Node all in Capricorn at this time, you can be sure that it is an opportune time to move forward in business- and career-related matters.  Mars in Aries is providing the push and impetus and the Capricorn planets are providing just enough braking power to keep you grounded and practical.  Go for it!

Astrology Transits November 2018 – Change in Perspective

Sometimes a change of perspective is all it takes to see the light. — Dan Brown

Many of us have been in a wee bit of a downer mood during the last month(s).  Venus in Scorpio, turning retrograde, has forced us to think about relationship, money and value(s) issues that we would rather not face.  Old sore spots around any of those issues were brought to the forefront.  We had a tendency to bring old issues up over and over.  Picture a dog licking a wound until the wound begins to bleed.

That was Venus in Scorpio energy.  Now as Venus turns retrograde and moves back into Libra, we have an excellent chance to rethink, redo and remedy any of the sore spots.

As the month of November progresses, first Mercury, then Jupiter, and finally the Sun enter the more light-hearted sign of Sagittarius.  Our perspective shifts away from the darkness that can be part of the Scorpio energy into the more optimistic, talkative, expansive Jupiter-ruled sign of truth, adventure and higher learning.

The North and South Nodes move from Leo/Aquarius into Cancer/Capricorn (the Nodes normally travel backward through the zodiac).  This is a big shift!  See below.

November 1:  Jupiter at 28 degrees Scorpio Trine Chiron in Pisces.  Just before Jupiter leaves Scorpio, it gifts us with a lovely healing trine between Jupiter and Chiron.  Jupiter in Scorpio highlights the darkness and wounds, while Chiron in Pisces is the healing energy. As I wrote this, I had the image of a rainbow in the sky as a healing covenant.

November 6, Election Day in United States.

Sun Trine Neptune at 13 degrees Scorpio/Pisces.

Mars in Aquarius Square Jupiter in Scorpio and Venus in Libra square Uranus in Aries.

Retrograde Uranus Re-enters Aries and Squares the Lunar Nodes.

No doubt about it; this will not be a boring day.  Sun trine Neptune can bring confusion, delusion and illusion, but it can also re-ignite a spiritual ideal if you are ready for it.  On a personal level you may feel increased imagination, empathy and creativity.  Emotions will run high, especially later in the day when the Moon moves into Scorpio and joins the Sun as a New Moon. The general meaning of a New Moon is for a new beginning.  Set your intentions at this time!

Mars in Aquarius square Jupiter in Scorpio and Venus in Libra square Uranus in Aries are just about what you would anticipate for such a contentious election.  Anger, agitation, and acting out (Mars) regarding beliefs and buried intent (Jupiter in Scorpio).

Retrograde Uranus re-entering Aries re-awakens the energy of April and May 2018, just before Uranus entered Taurus for the first time.  On a personal level, look back to that time period to understand how Uranus retrograde in Taurus might affect you.  Remember, any retrograde planet signals a time when you can rethink, redo and rectify past attitudes and events.  Uranus will stay in Aries until March 5, 2019, when it returns to Taurus.  This energy will be felt most strongly by those with planets in late degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn, Cancer) and the early degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius).

With all of the Aquarius/Uranus energy, we can expect the unexpected in more ways than one.

An election day chart for the United States (set for New York City, NY) is shown below.

November 15:  Venus Stations Direct at 25 Degrees Libra.

November 16:  North Node enters 29 Degrees Cancer and South Node Enters 29 Degrees Capricorn.  The nodal axis changing signs is a major shift with karmic overlays.  Roughly, it points to where we have been and where we are going.  We have collectively been in a period where the polarity between individuality and “group think” has been challenged and laid bare.  Now, as the nodes move into Cancer/Capricorn the energy is about taking care of ourselves, our nation and our fellow earth inhabitants versus business as usual and the almighty dollar.  The Nodes will remain in Cancer/Capricorn until September 25, 2029.

On a personal level, this shift will be felt most strongly by those with planets near 29 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) and the very early degrees of the fixed signs (Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus).

Mars enters Pisces on this date, where it will stay until June 28, 2020.  Mars is an uneasy traveler in the sign of Pisces.  Mars wants action, aggression and movement.  Pisces slows Mars down and tempers its masculine energy.  However, I am looking forward to this transit because it should help mitigate the senseless violence that we are seeing all around us.  Mars in Pisces is an extremely opportune time to hold peaceful demonstrations, or to get involved in other kinds of nonviolent activism — with the emphasis on the word “peaceful.”

November 20:  Mercury Turns Stationary Retrograde at 14 Degrees Sagittarius.  Mercury will move back into Scorpio on December 1st and will station direct on December 6 at 27 degrees Scorpio.

November 20:  Mars at 3 Degrees Pisces Square Jupiter in Sagittarius.  Beware of over “everything” on this day.  Be careful of over excitement, over doing, and being overly optimistic.  No, you really can’t run a marathon if you haven’t prepared for it!!

November 22, Thanksgiving Day, Sun Joins Jupiter in Sagittarius.  Sandwiched between Mars square Jupiter and Sun and Jupiter in Sagittarius, this can be a great day with lots of happy, optimistic energy.  Watch out for debating entrenched opinions and beliefs (Jupiter and Sagittarius) over the dinner table.  Much better to refrain from such conversations and to then take part in outdoor sports or some other physical activity (Mars).

November 28:  Sun, Jupiter and Mercury Conjunct in Sagittarius and Venus Opposition Uranus at 28 Degrees Libra/Aries.  The month ends on an optimistic note.  The Venus opposition can bring relationship stress, but it can also be a great day to do something fun and offbeat with someone you care about.

Astrology Transits October 2018 – Volatile Venus/Mars Issues

October opens with the Sun and Mercury in Libra, the sign of justice and fairness.  In addition, Venus, the ruler of Libra, is very strong as she turns retrograde and makes important connections throughout the month of October.  Mercury rules communication and Venus rules women and all things related to women, including women’s sexuality and the feminine archetype in general.

In addition, Venus aspects Mars at various times during the month.  Mars rules the masculine archetype.  It relates to male sexuality, action, aggression (including sexual aggression), wars and competition.

Is it any wonder then that the United States news is consumed with the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court and the he/said, she/said allegations of sexual abuse? Though I have studied and practiced astrology all of my life, it sometimes just blows me away how astrology, over and over again, is right in tune with what is happening in our life and in our political, world system.

October 2, Cancer Moon opposing Pluto and Mercury square Pluto.  Moon opposing Pluto brings intense, emotional encounters with others.  Discussions (Mercury) can quickly turn confrontational and intense (Pluto).  Back away from any conflicts until the energy is weaker and more conducive to compromise.

October 5, Venus Turns Retrograde at 10 Degrees Scorpio.  Venus, will be retrograde until November 15, 2018, when it turns direct at 25 degrees Libra.  All planets become more intense when in retrograde motion because they are at their closest point to the earth. Venus rules love, desire, sensuality and intense feelings, as well as money and blessings received.  Though stronger, a retrograde Venus can suppress your feelings and/or cause projection of feelings onto others.

October 8, New Moon at 16 Degrees Libra Square Pluto in Capricorn. This Libra new Moon promises to be challenging.  Beware of compulsive, out-of-control emotions during this intense new Moon.  Also beware of emotional power struggles that can manifest as guilt, jealousy and manipulation.  You can use this Moon in the most positive way by going inside yourself to do an unflinchingly honest self-analysis. Pluto square the Moon can give you the courage to correct anything ugly that pops out.

The Libra new Moon is also inconjunct Neptune in Pisces.  Inconjunct aspects act like an annoyance that won’t go away.  This aspect illuminates how and where you are deluding yourself about emotional and/or partnership matters.

October 10, Venus at 10 Degrees Scorpio Square Mars in Aquarius.  This is a partial replay of the energy of September 10 when Venus was in a T-square with Mars and Uranus.  It pits the god of war (Mars) against the goddess of love (Venus).  While physical attraction with another is high, the tension and competitiveness of a Venus/Mars contact can bring out resentments and arguments.  Both physical attraction and tension may be in play, in which case making up could be exciting.

Mercury opposing Uranus on the same date lends a scattered, nervous vibe to the energy of the day.  Watch what you say, because you are prone to erratic, unexpected thought processes and statements.  Watch for volatile announcements and news regarding the Supreme Court nomination during the several days before and after these aspects.

October 11, Sun Square Pluto at 18 Degrees Libra/Capricorn.  More intensity on tap with a feeling of being in a pressure cooker.  Simmering issues with authority figures can come to the fore at this time.  The best way to use this energy is to make significant changes to old, unproductive, self-sabotaging patterns of behavior that have outlived their usefulness.

October23 and 24, Sun Moves into Scorpio Conjunct Venus in Opposition to Uranus and the Full Moon in Taurus.
Wow!! The drama continues and high volatility prevails!  Be wary of entrenched positions, especially around emotional matters.  Both the Sun and Moon are in fixed signs, which aren’t inclined to give an inch on matters that are important to them.  They form a grand square with the North and South Nodes.  The battle you want to win may have its roots in very old resentments, or even in past life residues.

Once again, it is best to let go of trying to fix others.  Enough of your own issues will surface during this time to keep you more than occupied.

Both the Sun and Moon form helpful aspects to Saturn in Capricorn.  Use this energy to tend to practical matters and to take responsibility where needed.

October 30 and 31, Venus Retrograde Opposing Uranus in Taurus, Square the North and South Nodes in Leo/Aquarius.

This could be a defining moment for the #MeToo movement and the ongoing debate around sexual abuse issues.  Uranus is a wild card and the Nodes denote a karmic connection.  The “chickens may come home to roost” as the saying goes.

November 6, US Election Day Aspects:

Venus retrograde square Uranus — Somewhat similar to Venus opposing Uranus (see October 30 and 31 above).  Expect the unexpected!

Jupiter trine Chiron — Too much of something and the desire to bring in healing energy.

Venus trine Mars — Mildly helpful energy in working with the volatile Venus/Mars polarities.

Sun trine Neptune — Elements of confusion and complacency prevails.  WE MUST ALL VOTE.  It is much too easy to blow off our civic duty under this aspect.

Astrology Transits September 2018 – New Hope and Action

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches on the soul and sings the tune

Without the words and never stops at all. – Emily Dickinson

August is gone, school has started, and we now begin to shift into fall mode, I have been reflecting a bit about the hot, challenging summer that we have gone through.  So many of my clients have expressed a sense of fatigue, burn-out, anger, frustration or even depression.  I too have had a challenging summer.

With five to six planets retrograde during most of the summer, it has sometimes felt as though we were slogging through mud — one step forward and two steps back.  However, Mercury and Mars are both now moving direct and Saturn will turn direct on September 6.  Pluto, Neptune and Uranus remain retrograde.  Pluto will turn direct on October 1, then Venus turns retrograde on October 4.

Mars in direct motion will get everything moving again, though vestiges of anger will remain, because Mars is still out of bounds by declination until September 23.

September brings a definite shift that allows a bit of optimism, hope and energy to resurface.  It is time to stand up on our wobbly legs and enter the good fight once again.

With a strong emphasis on Virgo planets this month we will all do well to analyze where we have fallen short and to strategically plan for how to correct our errors and move confidently forward once again.

From August 31 through September 15 Jupiter will sextile Pluto at 17-19 degrees of Scorpio/Capricorn and Saturn will trine Uranus at 2 degrees of Capricorn/Taurus.  Trines are easy energy that facilitate forward movement.  However, that easy energy will come to naught if we don’t combine it with effort.  The message is to analyze, plan and act in the first half of the month while the wind is at your back.

September 6 — Mercury moves into Virgo and Saturn turns direct at 2 degrees Capricorn.  Saturn turning direct is a big deal.  Most of us will feel this in our bones (Saturn rules bones) and in our energy field.  Saturn is a business planet so all work- and career-related endeavors should move more smoothly and confidently.  Saturn’s limitations and restrictions were emphasized when he was in his retrograde phase.  Saturn moving direct lets us take what we have learned this summer and to use that knowledge to attain our goals.  Saturn does reward hard work and sensible application of effort.

September 7-8 — Sun opposes Neptune at 15 degrees of Virgo/Pisces; Mercury trines Saturn and Uranus at 2 Virgo/Capricorn/Taurus; and Venus squares Mars at 28-29 Libra/Capricorn.  The Mercury/Saturn/Uranus grand trine in earth signs provides a beneficial shot of ease to help us move forward in a practical, grounded way.  However, that positive energy is modified by the Sun/Neptune opposition that brings an element of indecision and fuzzy thinking to the equation.  Venus square Mars in Libra/Capricorn furnishes a sense of challenge that can get us moving despite the illusory Neptunian veil.  Be cautious when approaching relationship matters as there is a strong sense of “me versus them.”

September 9 — Venus enters Scorpio on the 9th and is square Mars at 29 degrees Capricorn.  Romantic relationships are deeply scrutinized during this challenging time.  Venus rules feminine energy and Mars rules masculine energy.  There could be an internal battle between your desire for a deep connection with someone and anger and/or frustration over real or imaginary problems with the relationship.

Also, on September 11-12 — Mars enters Aquarius; while

Sun is sextile Jupiter at 18 degrees Virgo/Scorpio;

Sun is trine Pluto at 18 degrees Virgo/Capricorn;

Jupiter is sextile Pluto at 18 degrees Scorpio/Capricorn; and

Venus is opposing Uranus at 2 degrees Scorpio/Taurus.

Mars in Aquarius opens up new avenues of thought and action.  It is time to express your individuality and to re-assess matters relating to freedom (or the lack thereof).  Take time to think of what makes you unique and special.  Mars in Aquarius asks you to come out of hiding regarding the exclusive qualities only you have.  YOU have a gift to give to the world.  Mars in Aquarius will help you find that gift.

It takes courage to search for and acknowledge those gifts (Venus opposing Uranus), but the rewards are enormous — both for yourself and for those who receive your gifts.  Those of you with planets in Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio are especially urged to heed the call of Mars in Aquarius.

Be open to so-called wild thoughts that enter your mind.  Many useful insights are never used or acknowledged because we are not tuned into those “sudden insights.”  Be warned though, you don’t need to act on everything that comes into your mind.  Some restraint and common sense is needed.  Mars in Aquarius is wonderful for those of you who are inventors of any kind.

September 13 – Mercury opposes Neptune at 14 degrees Virgo/Pisces.  Your thinking could be fuzzy, overly idealistic and illogical at this time.  Best to shelve discussion and/or dissection of weighty issues and save them until another day.

September 15-21 – Mars square Uranus at 2 degrees Aquarius/Taurus.

This is more of the crazy energy that we have been dealing with for months.  Hang in there, watch your temper and pay attention when driving.  This too shall pass.  A big positive is that you may get a second wind and/or a burst of energy that allows you to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.  Marvelous, startling ideas may pop in your head from an unknown well of inspiration.

The edgy Mars/Uranus square is lightened by:  Mercury sextile Jupiter at 19 degrees Virgo/Scorpio; Mercury trine Pluto at 19 degrees Virgo/Capricorn; and Jupiter sextile Pluto at 19 degrees Scorpio/Capricorn.  Communication and classes of all kinds are favored.  Jupiter sextile Pluto is excellent for digging out the truth.

Venus square the lunar nodes at 4 degrees Scorpio/Leo/Aquarius will bring back shades of the energy from the lunar eclipse of July 27, 2018.  If you have unresolved issues from that time period, you may find resolution now.

September 24 – Full Moon at 1 degree Aries/Libra.  At the time of the full Moon, the Moon is conjunct Chiron and the Sun opposes Chiron.  Both of the lights are square Saturn.  This is an excellent time to let go of those things that are causing you hurt.  Saturn will help you sort out reality from wishful thinking so you can fix what is broken and in need of repair.  Conflicts around “me versus you” will be especially on the radar.  The Aries full Moon will be felt the strongest if you have planets or points in the early degrees of the cardinal signs and the late degrees of mutable signs.

September 26 through the year 2021 – Pluto and Uranus form a biseptile aspect.  The biseptile aspect is considered a minor aspect, however it can be very powerful.  It brings in an overlay of fate and even, some would say, contact from other dimensions. Things may happen that are unpredictable; yet such happenings may have a profound effect on your psyche and spirituality.  Astrologer Tom Delay calls this aspect the “forks in the road of destiny.”  It may explain those things that happen over the next three years that have no known reason for happening and other downright “weird” happenings.
